Local blood center gave out awards last night. |
|
Until last night I never had an inkling how much blood I had given. I had asked once about 25 years ago and they said that they had lost records in converting to the new computer system. So, since they started keeping track I have given 25 gallons. Sure wonder how much i had given before. Next month it will be 44 years that I have been giving. I began as a replacement donor for a hemophiliac friend. Once they typed me as O- they have pretty much made me a regular. I give platelets and white cells, so they tap me @ 15 times a year.
This is one I am kind of proud of.

bunch of blood in Austin too
I am O negative too, but it's only universal for blood - I think AB+ is universal for platelets :D

3. I was up to 4 gallons when they asked me not to come back |

I have a weak RH factor and my blood kept getting mis-typed as AB-. Extremely dangerous, though I had warned them before I started donating. Since then I've had too many accidents, illnesses, and operations to consider donating anymore.
