Last week I checked out two books from the library: Al FRankens' Lies and the Lying Liars and Molly Ivins and Lou Dubose's Bushwacked. BOTH books had pages torn out in the introduction and Bushwacked has pages missing from a couple of chapters. Is it just coincidence or do you suppose some right-winger got tired of hearing the truth and ripped out pages? Personally I think it is very sick to deface books in any way. I may want to throw Ann Coulters books in the trash but I don't. Instead I simply ignore them. Next time I go to the library I am going to tell the librarian about this so they can replace the books. A real shame. Too many yahoos in the town.

1. By all means, alert your library |

Depending on the circulation system, they may be able to charge the winger miscreants for their vandalism. I think it very likely that the vandalism was politically inspired, and your library will probably be quite unhappy that this has occurred.

2. Regardless of the intent |

report. I mean, there's a *tiny* chance that the person liked the sections so much that they made themselves an 'excerpt' ;) but objectively it's destruction of public property, and your library is going to have to replace the books--and everybody pays.

3. Naah. Repukes will use these incidents as reasons to |

abolish libraries and make people buy books instead.
They hate it when things are free to share.
They want people to spend money.
Pawlenty's doing the same thing with the MTC bus strike situation in St Paul right now... and it's disgusting.

I go to Barnes and Noble, and if the book is worth buying, I buy it, if not, I read it, then put it back on the shelf and leave. LOL Duckie
