Ok...I could defend Matrix 2, but 3????

1. 3 is indefensible

Almost amounting to a crime against humanity, but not quite.

I was appalled by it, and pissed off. Not as pissed off as I was by Nemesis, but pissed off.

What a shitty movie. Technically well done, and the huge ass battle scene was done amazingly well, but huge ass battle scene was totally unnecessary and the story sucked.

Pfagh on matrix 3 and all those who liked it. All the magnifience, the amibuigty, the questioning of the original was hammered out existence entirely by the third movie.

5. Two opened it up to Gnostic theology

and almost all of that was left out in the final movie.

Sheesh.

And Neo is missing from the film for almost an hour?

Sheeesh.

I really enjoyed how part two opened up the entire world, but part three just seemed to shut them all down.

I also liked 2 quite a bit, though it could have been much better. I liked where it was going and what it had to say. (and the fight scene on the highway was AWESOME, though awfully gratuitous)

And as you say, number 3 took all the coolness of the two movies (especially the first one) and pushed it all aside and made it irrelevant. Number 3 ended so tidily, so sacchariney, I couldn't stand it.

I really wanted the story to end on as ambiguous a tenor as it had int he beginning: asking, What is real?

2. I was very disapointed with Matrix 2, and haven't seen 3

After watching Matrix 2, I felt they dropped the whole metaphorical aspect of the first Matrix in the process of fleshing out their fictional universe (which is about all they could do, I suppose, if they were set on a trilogy).

When I watched The Matrix (the first one) the second time, and then the third (it's been on cable), the 'Industrial Culture as Matrix' theme seemed even more overt.

I think that the end of the first Matrix was a good place to end. Do you know if it was originally written as a trilogy, or did they tack on 2 and 3 after the success of Matrix 1?

12. HDTV would not matter, not for DVD's

I enjoyed Matrix Revolutions, not as much as Reloaded, and certainly not as much as the original. There was, in my opinion, so much potential for the third installment, and we were all let down. Nonetheless, it was a decent movie when compared to others in 2003. It may have broke into my top 20. It's not saying much, but I don't think it deservered the amount of criticism it received.

because I remember reading in 99 that the studio companies immediately signed up for two sequels before the first one was out of the theater...

2 and 3 were too long, and it shows where they were unmercifully stretched. I think if they chop off parts of 2 and 3, then they have a pretty good sequel and just leave it at that...

16. I was never a huge Matrix fan, but the first one was fun and fluffy.

I could never get past the concept that hundreds of years in the future with all these advances in technology, two thirds of the movies involves people punching and kicking each other.

17. Just bought "Revolutions" on DVD

Just had to have all three.

I watched it again, and it had some things I liked, such as Agent Smith and some of the effects. Other than that, it was the weakest of the three films. Especially since it dragged quite a bit. The war was too long, Neo was gone for about 45 minutes, and there wasn't enough time in 'the Matrix'. And, like the Star Wars prequels, they had to damn near kill the movies by throwing in some stupid senate/council subplot. AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! I don't give a shit about sci-fi politics. Real politics is enough sci-fi for me!

"Reloaded" was pretty decent, although it paled in comparison to the original. I liked some of the weird elements thrown in to the story line. It grew on me over time.

I will say this: "Animatrix" is awesome, and I usually despise anime.
