Agghh! Beware the librarian!

That was me; part of a master's in Library Science and 8 years as a library technician in a school library before I moved on to the classroom.

You can take a librarian out of the library, but... the library follows her.

I desperately needed to clean my office this spring break. The piles have gotten so large that I can't find anything, and there is no room to work. I was in such dire straits that I decided to pack up all the books to get them out of the way, open up some space, re-organize, and get some work done. Then, if I don't move this summer, I'll find someplace to put more shelves and unpack them again. I've been packing books for 2 days. 20 boxes worth. And I'm still packing. I'm packing almost everything, leaving only 50 books or so that have been on my "read when I get to it" list in the last year. 20 boxes; regular-sized packing boxes, with no extra space. Crammed full. Heavy. And I'm still surrounded by books. I envision a rescue squad finding me at the bottom of a mountain of books someday. And yet, I can't get rid of them. I am slowed down by the need to browse through books I haven't thought of in a while. My "weeded" pile will fit in one box. By the time I get done in here, I will have filled all 25 of the boxes I bought, and not packed them all. Then I have to find storage room in the overflowing garage for the 25 boxes. And this doesn't include the 1500 books out in my "work" storage shed, or the 1000 or so in my classroom at work.

No wonder I never have time to watch tv.
