I think ER is about to enter the gay marriage debate - spoiler follows

If you watch the show, you know Kerry Weaver and her girlfriend the firefighter just had a baby.

Tonight, from what I've gathered from previews, the firefighter is going to meet an untimely death while fighting a fire.

This sets up a number of scenarios which will speak to the plight of couples whose rights are not protected under the law. 1) Survivor benefits but more importantly 2) I imagine there will be a storyline where a family member of the firefighter will challenge Kerry for custody of the baby, the firefighter being the birth mom.

THere hasn't been much for the character to do since her moment of self realization several seasons ago. Looks like that might be changing now.

I was about to ask if ER was going to be new tonight, but now I know... and will definitely watch!!
