1. actually they sound rather poetic
used to prefer clever band names to some of the blood and death oriented ones that are common now. Riot girrl show sounds good, though. Who are the current riot girl bands. I am curious as a female post-punker who used to play in bands. I am way out of the loop.

2. there are a million bands with names like those
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 01:50 PM by ButterflyBlood
it's too bad mp3.com is down because you could just look at the metalcore or emo charts and every band would have a name like that. they all sound the same too. just look here though and browse the bands: http://www.hxcmp3.com

The riot grrl band here was Eufio from Minneapolis (so non-Minnesotans probably haven't heard of them), playing with Diseased and SPC.

3. well what kind of names do you prefer?
i.e., what is your band called if you have one? And thanks.

Don't really care for metalcore per se. Although I admire the emotional content of some of it. I can handle old style metal and old-style hard-core, but I don't really like the combination. Used to think of L-7 and the Seattle bands of that time as fitting that riot girl designation, but that may not be what it means anymore. I was playing out before the Riot girrl thing came into vogue. I suppose you could think of Patti Smith and Lydia Lunch as the original riot girls?

4. I don't have one
but I actually do listen to a lot of bands with names like that. I just found it funny that there was a show with a bunch of ones with such generic names playing together.

and yeah, you could be right about the original riot grrls, now it's like Sleater-Kinney. I actually have an early Blood Brothers split 7" with a riot grrl band that actually rips off Moss Icon and all the early DC/Maryland emo stuff. Never thought that was possible.

5. yeah some of my friends... mostly male ones -
are into Sleater- Kinney. Not sure why exactly - there always seem to be a "flavor of the year- now these women can actually rock" kind of vibe going around. Like the Donnas or Shonen Knife- type thing. Can't say I have heard enough of Sleater KInney to say one way of the other.

One of my favorite all female rock bands was Scrawl out of Columbus Ohio. They could rock and play well and write great songs.
