Best seldom-played Beatles tune
What Beatles tune do you really like, that hardly ever gets aired on the radio now, or was hardly played at all (if ever) on the radio during the 60's?

For me, it's "Hey Bulldog."

That bass guitar riff is da BOMB!

40. Do you prefer "...Northern Song" to "If I Needed Someone"...?
I ask that because they have almost the same melody -- check it out.

I'm also fond of "I'm Looking Through You," although not so much for the song itself (which isn't bad, either) as for the arrangement, the way instruments or flourishes pop in and out on the different verses.

3. "I got a feeling"
Again, it's all about the guitar riff. Well, that and the yelling. And the lyrics. And the pace of the song. Heck, the whole thing.

4. "Hey Bulldog" is a great song,
particularly the way John and Paul spar at the end.

"What's that boy?"
"I say, Ruff!"
"You know any more?"
"Ah-wooooooo!"
"That's it man, you've got it! You've got it! Don't look at me, man, I only have ten grandchildren!"

12. In My Life
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 03:58 PM by mharris660
There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

14. "I Need You" and "The Inner Light" come to mind.
I was thinking of the song "I Need You" just yesterday, when I was reading a story about when George visited Southern Illinois in the Summer of '62. His sister lives in Benton. Anyway, he bought his first Rickenbacher at a guitar store in Mt. Vernon Illinois, which is where Mrs. XNASA grew up. It was always a big part of the local folk lore down there. There was even a sign at one of the stalls in the local hot-dog drive-in that said something like "Famous Beatle George Harrison Ate Here, July 17, 1962".

Cool story, huh?

22. My best friend in high school
had an older sister who met George on that trip. Louise Harrison was married to the cousin of my friend's brother-in-law. They took George to his first drive-in movie and he loved it. A cute sidebar was at the family reunion an elderly uncle asked George what he did back in England and George said "I play guitar in a group called the Beatles." The uncle said "Son, with a name like that you're never going anywhere.".

26. Norwegian Wood
I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me...
She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke, I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire, isn't it good, norwegian wood.

actually, my favorite Beatles song.

It wasn't, at first, apparent to me... but that song totally rules. It excuses the songs before it and after it on Sgt. Pepper. I think the whole song is driven by Ringos use of the hi-hat.

I'd sit after I dropped early in the morning, many times after going to the Fillmore, sometimes right after work at night...at this litle dive of a hot stand in SF called Doggie Diner...I'd play that song...the only juke box around that had the song...I love it (and heard a lot of different "takes" by the Beatles in the studio since). Fun song!

What was the flip side?

46. Tomorrow Never Know, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Lyrics To Tomorrow Never Knows

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream,
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down al thoughts, surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
