The hand gesture for the peace symbol... what does it mean when |
|
it's displayed reversed?
I was at a toy store looking for a small plastic cowboy hat... I wandered by the little butch boy area, just to see what they were peddling. I saw some GI Joe/whatever accessories in a blister pack featuring different things like backpacks, grenades, gun holsters, et cetera.
What disturbed me was that this package came with two hands. HANDS. One had an index finger pointed out with the others retracted. The other had the index and middle fingers outward as if the hand was making the peace symbol. Except the hand was facing the wrong way; whoever made the mold got it BACKWARDS. In Britain, this gesture means quite eloquently, "fuck you". Does it mean something else in America, or are we now teaching kids offensive hand gestures via toys?

4. Since it is a GI joe doll... |
|
... I would guess that it is an infantry signal. When each finger is placed below an eye it means you are telling your squad members "I see..." then you would use a different signal to tell them what you see.
