Speak of the devil, our yard guy was just here. Not only did they mow down all my dandelions, which I had decided to enjoy -- fuck that, now, they're gone -- but his new helper WEED WHACKED MRS. V.'s IRISES!

What kind of an idiot cuts down something that's in a circular flower bed, surrounded by all kinds of coming-up spring bulb flowers, and that doesn't even look like a fucking weed?!

I like having my yard done, as it is more cost effective for me, but I hate it when stuff like that happens.

8. Don't worry - the irises will come back too.

I've cut mine down just because I have too many and they always come back. I finally gave away about 50 bulbs.

But I will say your yard guy sure ain't no expert in yards. I'm sure you can find someone else who needs the work and does a good job.

In the 3 years I've lived here, I've had someone come in to do yard work 3 different times when it got away from me and I just couldn't keep up. Each time, I said clearly:

"I don't care about the grass. Cut it short. Get it away from what I'm really trying to grow here. And leave all of my plants alone."

I have a "cottage garden" type yard. Roses, herbs, vines, hollyhocks, iris, daffodils, lilacs, mint, grapes, fruit trees, wildflowers, etc. in profusion. All 3 times; 3 different gardeners. Every time they chopped every last bush, vine, etc. down to ground level and called it "pruning." And then asked me if I didn't think it looked a lot better now; "bigger," and "more open."

My yard can grow into a jungle of neglect before I'll ever try that again.

I love dandelions; I'd love to have them in the fucking bermuda grass; but alas. I guess it's only the weed & feed folks that ever get to see them!
