Finally! A browser with a killfile! |
|
Finally installed Mozilla's new "Firefox" web-browser on my system. It's got a good interface, excellent rendering and features (etc), but it wasn't until today that I finally discovered its best feature: you can download an extension called "AdBlock" that lets you killfile web ads! Point and click and they're *gone*. Goodbye "doubleclick.net". Goodbye to all those dancing shockwave-flash ads. My web browsing just got 100% faster and 100% less annoying :)
Thanks to the DUers who recommended this app. It's fantastic.

5. Just remembert you are using a beta |
|
Its not even version 1.0, so we're part of a public beta test. I must say they have impressed the shit out of me. Version 0.8 is so much more reliable than ver 0.7, it had problems with certain webpages dealing with various media types. Not anymore though.
You are right though, the extensions, most made by other users, are awesome. My browsers does all I want it to do, and only what I want it to do. This is the part I love the most, it's a barebones browser with phenomenal expansion ability with the use of extensions. My second favorite feature is the fact that it renders web pages faster than anything I've seen, and far quicker than IE, but then again, IE is horribly bloated ocmpared to other browsers.
I think Microsoft sbould be a bit worried about Firefox. It might not take away market leading status, but I do think it will take away a fair share of it.

9. I'm using Mozilla 1.6 and can't wait for firefox 1.0 |
|
I almost downloaded it the other day, but decided to wait. I love Mozilla, and am certain firefox will be the browser to beat all browsers. If one is stuck using IE, I feel for them. I occasionally use it, just to see how it's working, and am so thankful for Mozilla. The options are great, and it is easy to clean up with the cookie manager, etc. Did I say I love Mozilla? Damn, I will probably break down and load the beta firefox.
Anyone using IE, consider a change. IE is not only bloated, it is frustratingly slow and absorbs viruses like a petri dish.

6. Cool Beans! Now you can look forward to paying for the web |

Once people kill all the advertising.
I don't love it all but as a web guy I know that advertising is all that keeps some sites alive. My niece works for a huge ecommerce site that really makes more off the ads than sales.
Think what TV would be like if all the ads were "killed" in the early days.
I personally block pop-ups but this is different. This is blocking and altering the content a site owner built into his page. You are changing a copyrighted design when you stop the flash banner from showing in the manner intended. I bet you wouldn't cut all the pics and ads out of your Sunday newspaper in order to make it lighter and quicker to read.
Funny too. On the Firefox homepage they offer an Ad button to put on web pages to bring people to the Mozilla site.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. The web has been getting turned into a gigantic spam-delivery system for nearly a decade now, and I, for one, will be positively delighted to see that come to an end. Can't happen soon enough, imho.
