I agree that the e-vote situation is the most important issue we face. It is clear that we only have two years to stop the scam that is being perpetrated upon us by the BushCo "machine".
We need a coordinated effort to lobby our legislators, support more progressives for elected office, and get more progressives onto election boards and oversight commissions. At the same time, we need to educate the public, and generate awareness to establish a strong base of support in our communities to make these goals reality.
So far it seems to me that the decision as to what company will provide a particular voting machine to a state is made at the state level, not the federal level.
With the current makeup of the House and Senate, lobbying our federal legislators will ultimately have the effect of "registering a complaint" that will be soundly ignored by the repug majority in both Houses. That's why it's important that we activate immediately at the state level to get initiatives passed decreeing accountability and verified voting in as many states as possible. Let's work "under the radar" so to speak to position ourselves to defend our states rights.
All of the above are neccessary and important to the cause of bringing fairness and accuracy back to the vote. However, I believe that it's just as important to have an alternate solution ready and available when we go to our legislators and to our communities. This is the only way to effect real change in such a short amount of time.
That's where TruVote comes in.
I just started researching the company based on a previous post here on DU, and this article I found dated 10/30/04 is quite interesting.
http://www.tennessean.com/business/archives/04/11/60549101.shtmlIt seems that the company is looking for a new president and investors. It's product and limited track record are very impressive and the product is a viable competitor against the other voting machines on the market. It's my hope that progressive investors would get involved with this company before the repug money machine washes it out of existence.
Perhaps this is a company that we can get behind to offer as a viable solution to our legislators and communities to effect real change quickly.
We've seen the resources that we progressives have when we come together as an activism block. Millions were raised for Dr. Dean, MoveOn.org, John Kerry, and now BlackBoxVoting.org. We had hundreds of lawyers and other professionals activated at the polls this past week. And now we have the anger and the desire...
It seems as if a TruVote project may be a worthy project, but that's just one man's opinion. What do you think? What can we do?
