POW - US Presidential Election 2004
I think this is a great idea! I think it will bring attention to itself and the cause. I remember wearing a POW bracelet in the 70's and everyone who saw it asked the name of the POW. If I were to wear this black bracelet and someone asked the name of the POW, I would ask what their name was, because that is the name on my bracelet.

8. I vote for black- and the less writing the better. simple. somber. |
|
I vote for black and the date like I said before.
I think that says it all.
But, I'll buy whatever. We should have a poll?
Blue doesn't seem mournful enough. And I think while we are organizing and getting pissed off we still need to validate being mournful.

7. I suggest to everyone that you make your own. |
|
Just take a piece of elastic or felt and sew it or velcro it. We need to learn not to spend so money on stuff we can easily make.

when i see the armstrong bracelets, i'm automatically reminded of the POW bracelets of the 70's. i guess i'm dating myself, but it was an incredibly strong statement back then. i often thought of wearing a bracelet with the name of one of our fallen soldiers from the iraq war.

12. I made my own using a sheet of blue art foam and silver perm marker |
|
The art foam is cheap ($0.39) for a sheet that's 9x12". I cut a strip about 1/2" wide x 9" long, then attached snap fasteners on the end (also fairly cheap at $1.69 for 10). Then, I wrote "LIBERAL DEMOCRAT" in silver permanent marker. I wear it, of course, on my left wrist.

28. its not that I don't get it- I am buying black ribbon today for myself |
|
But it is about marketing too- and having a visible message of unity.
folks can do what they want and feel great about it- I don't think we should argue about it but I think that there is something to be said for a message of unity.
Like how the Kerry/Edward campaign stickers were visible from far away. Something immediately recognizable.

and besides, that was in the old times before this election got stolen. I'm in full blown "living simply" mode now, lol. I'm saving all the money I can because who knows how bad its going to get under *

Sorry I'm so stoooooopid! And also BBV! I know B.F.E.E., now that's a bumper sticker I WOULD LOVE!

n/t at the end of the subject line means that there is "no text" in the message - so read no further.
BBV is for Black Box Voting, as referenced in other posts on this topic.
Hope this is helpful, and hope you find DU a great place to be!

will get one of those yellow magnetic ones at the gas station and paint it black. Plain, simple black. Black for the loss of democracy, black for 100,000 dead civilians, black for 1128 dead soldiers.

Looks like the set-up fee is $65.00 and if we order 1000 bracelets to start, we're looking at .29 a pop.
I'm willing to contribute. I think we need a uniform bracelet with a uniform message. I personally like blue and will defer to more creative DUers on the message.
Once we've raised the start-up money, we need a distribution system and have to agree where proceeds will go. I vote for Bev Harris.

Could we sell them through DU?
We should have a poll maybe- color and message.
And yes- the proceeds could go to bbv.

|
im in favor of a positive message used so that we can find each other and identify ourselves as strong democrats rather than defeated ones. i also like honoring the soldiers names. i dont see why we cant have both. the soldier profits should go to a fund that helps their families and would give people not in our party the opportunity to give real support.

Right now I just wanted to get some kind of protest organized and my first thought was to put up a website. Hopefully enough people will order them so I can donate to several causes. I would also like to send a contribution to the Human Rights Campaign too.

25. And there are so many ways we can promote these everywhere- |
|
on our blogs through email great holiday presents for friends and family other organizations (the ones the proceeds would be donated to)
I could see these becoming as visible, if not more visible than the Lance Armstrong bracelets.
Bronco69- let me know if there is anyway I can help out.

Why not use Blue, the color of our states. Let's not put anything negative down on the bracelet. How about
"NO SURRENDER"
are we really gonna run with this project? I think it would be great for us to have something that would help bind our causes together, even if it is as materialistic as a bracelet.

|
The only reason I would lean away from blue is b/c I am getting tired of the red/blue states thing. I have so many friends in red states and I am in a blue state with plently of W'04 stickers on people's cars.
I do think this could do great things for making us all visible and to create an image of unity- and therefore prompt more unity!

31. I second the ideas of |
|
ProgressiveDancer, Juniper, Burned: That we need a positive message, and should/could include the name of a soldier. I, too, wore a POW bracelet during Viet Nam, and the bracelets really got people talking, especially young people.
Even though black is how I feel right now, I think blue is best, because it is associated with Democrats and is an easy way to ID us.

let's not let it die! maybe we should poll the ideas. seems they would be inexpensive enough that we could include a donation choice in the price... part for DU (we need to support this site!) and another for the families of our fallen soldiers.
if we got half the questions my friends and i got from wearing a POW bracelet, we would make great strides in spreading the word.
a silent and dignified protest! wonderful!

I still have all my Kerry/Edwards stickers on car, mail boxes and yard signs. Not taking them down yet. When I get enough other bumper stickers, then I will. I have a few ordered RIGHT now!
