I say we should protest RW churches
for promoting intolerance, hatred, and downright ignorance.

We shouldn't let them get away with this. They're already trying to brainwash people through mass media. And many Americans will believe what they hear on TV, because they're too lazy to go research the truth on their own.

We have to stop them. They get away with picketing gay pride parades, abortion clinics, and Matthew Shepard's funeral.

Why don't we start a movement?

1. Because
If you protest churches you are seen as anti christian.

The dems would loose the moderate christians simply because people do not look beyond the surface.

8. What about candle light Vigils outside these hateful places ?
Prayers gatherings w/ candles outside .

It could be done in a way that is seen as
VERY Pro-Christian . IMHO

2. Go for a subtler psychological approach
Send articles about Allawi, Bush's plan to privatize and sell off Iraq, and pictures of dead kids in Iraq to pastors who have supported Bush from the pulpit.

If the guys have half a conscious (and many do) it will give them pause.

9. I too hope that a tiny minority of them might be reached
with information about dead Iraqi civilians, Bushco's planned mental health check-ups (New Freedom Commission), and a more informed understanding of the what theocracywatch.org calls Dominion Theology. I have known lots of people who identify themselves as evangelical; some of their fringe elements even believe that * is the Anti-Christ. If we can cultivate a distrust of this government within their own ranks (even to to a degree) at least it's a small step.

5. That would be too creepy for me.
I was born-and-raised atheist, but even I'm not confortable protesting a church (or at a church, in most cases). It looks intolerant.

Besides, most of those lazy TV-watching Americans won't interpret it the way you want. They'll just think you're a crazy anti-God liberal. I think if you're going to protest religious fanatics, you have to make it clear that your protesting a specific fanatic, or a specific fanatical action.

When Falwell/Robertson/Wildmon/whoever does something public and stupid, the masses will understand a protest. Likewise, if you can concretely connect a local church to something crazy (homophobic sermons, for example), a protest can be seen a rational part of the public dialogue. But protesting a church just for being generic right-wingers? No good.

6. Ummmm....
No.

I'm Roman Catholic and this is not God's fault.

I would never protest a church unless that church or religion was physically harming a living being.

The only religion that I know of that I would protest against, is Santeria.

I'll do a lot for Democracy, but not that.

7. I agree with you, and I have a similar background
Most church-going "folks" are believers and completely sincere. It's not their fault that Bush* has chosen to exploit them or proselytize, blurring the separation of church and state, which was the reason that this country was founded. Bush* should be censured whenever he crosses this line, IMHO. Belief in God is fine, but not when somebody claims that God has told them to invade Iraq. If anybody else said this, he'd be strapped in a straitjacket and put on anti-psychotic medication.

The Scientologists are the ones who also scare me. I've seen what harm they can do.:scared:
