8. Progressive is good
This is Goddess40's mom. I have been insured by Progressive for about 5 years and have had no problem with them. They are the only ones who erase speeding tickets after 3 years, not 5 years like the rest of the companies. In case you are interested, I got picked up for going 85 mph in a 55 zone. It was a back road and the darn copper was going back to his office at the end of his shift. And, yes, I have learned my lesson. I got to thinking how I would feel if I was responsible for killing someone due to my bad driving habits. I no longer speed.

4. Ohh, damn... USAA is one of the very best insurance companies...
Most never want to have a lapse in policy (once you leave active duty you can't get back in if you have a lapse).

DID THEY GIVE ANY $$ to DEMS?

5. Yeah, about 400,000
Republicans $1,779,471 (81.31%)
Democrats $408,880 (18.68%)
Others $274 (0.01%)
-------------
Total $2,188,625

$400,000 isn't bad if you ignore the 1.8 million! There doesn't seem to be anyhting reported for Progressive.

9. lapse? don't think that's true...
I have several policies with them.
I've never been a government employee, nor have I ever enlisted.
My dad was in the army in the 50's and my mom was once a federal
employee, hence as their daughter, I and my children are eligible.
In fact, some of their services (eg, car loans, but not car insurance)
are available to the general public (last I knew).

USAA is a premium company, and because military service or federal employment
are what give one eligibility to be a policy holder, it makes sense they would
give to the bush administration.

Look at it as supporting the enlisted, those doing the jobs "somebody"
has to do, rather than as supporting bush.

The best thing about USAA?
Their customer service - omigod.
In a world that is today's hair-raising experience of being a consumer,
this org is fkg heaven.

No long holds, intelligent employees, courteous, efficient...

11. Insurance eligibility based on active duty or relation to someone
who has served. My understanding is that once you let an insurance policy lapse and are not yourself eligible through active duty, that you can't get back in-- a friend of mine who divorced someone in military experienced this after her check failed to clear one month.

10. Can't leave USAA
I'm disappointed that USAA gave so much to bush, but you'll not find a better insurance company anywhere, period. I've never found ANY company that will give me better rates. I insure two vehicles, full coverage, collision, medical, comprehensive, uninsured motorist, road-side assistance, etc., and pay $425.00 for a six month policy.

Not only that, I actually get a refund of premium every year. Usually about $50.00, but some years it has been over $150.00.

Claims have been a breeze. I leave the claim center WITH A CHECK IN HAND, 1 visit, no waiting. Once my car was hit while parked, got it all fixed up, and about six months later USAA sent my deductible ($500.00) back to me. They had gone to bat for me with the other vehicle owner and gotten them to pay for all the damages.

I've never, ever been able to get any insurance company to quote anywhere near the USAA premium for the same coverage.

Wish it weren't so, but I just can't leave them.

13. I agree . . . I've been with USAA for almost 40 years . . .
and I wouldn't change for anything . . . I'm disappointed that they're supporting Republicans, but they're still the best insurance company in the nation . . . both rates and service are outstanding, far better than I can get anywhere else . . . I'm a customer for life . . .

14. At the very least, write them and express disappointment
Suggest they at least be even-handed with their campaign contributions.

It wouldn't hurt.

I don't have a car (by choice and location) so insurance isn't part of my world, but if I were with them that's what I'd do.

15. I had USAA and was *very* happy....
...until I had a car wreck... then the rates more than tripled....so I fired them and went somewhere else.

17. Not surprising
Everyone who works there, (including my youngest brother) is retired military.

My brother is a Dem - and is one of many of his fellow USAA employees, who routinely go out and spend a week with military folks getting ready to ship out to Iraq, to make sure that their wills and finances are in order. As a former Marine who has been in combat, he says they do not try to "sell" anything, just offer help to soldiers who will be seperated from family and sometimes jobs for extended periods of time and who might not come back.)

Nevertheless, I feel they could have better spent the money on serving clients or keeping rates down, than contributing to any political candidate.
