They are violating CA state laws and a suit has been filed but while
it is moving slowly through the system, dogs are starving slowly,
painfully dying. We need to do something now.

These are three national companies who have locations in the
Bakersfield, Kern County area. Send an email to their headquarters
saying you will not do business with them until Bakersfield Animal
Control complies with the law. Check the Bakersfield Yellow Pages
for more.

7. Reply from Division Chief, Kern County Animal Control
*****, Thank you for your inquiry regarding the photos and story you
read on the internet. Indeed the photo of "Francis" is quite
disturbing.
Francis was picked up as a stray, on December 27th. She was released
to a Rescue group on January 5th. When picked up, the officer noted
Francis as being emaciated. However, she was friendly, active &
eating/drinking well. In recognition of her weight and not wanting to
upset the intestines, we fed her small portions 3 times a day. She was
kept in a single kennel where there was no competition for food. I am
saddened that the owner of Francis allowed her to deteriorate to this
state and further, did not keep her secured in a yard.
For our entire shelter we have a daily feeding schedule that we
rigorously adhere to & are committed to proper care of all animals. No
animal goes unfed.
Sincerely,
Denise R. Haynes
Division Chief, Kern County Animal Control
