I just registered www.impeachmentmarch.com
I just grabbed this domain. Let's start laying the groundwork for a grassroots March on Washington to Demand the Impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney.

For the date for the March? We need enough time to organize it and publicize it. I suggest either the weekend of June 3-4, 2006 (tied to 1st anniversary of the Downing Street memo), or July 1-4, 2006 (for obvious reasons).

Who wants to help with the site? My design skills are minimal. And anyone else want to join in getting this thing off the ground? Imagine if we could deliver half a million people to the Mall to demand that the Chimp be impeached.

1. I'm all for that...
If you're going to march, go for the gusto. His ass needs to be impeached (actually, tossed in a prison). A very focused impeachment march is a good idea.

3. July 4th is not a bad idea- we can demand Independence
from this fascist regime. I have no web skills but will help spread the word once it's up and running.

4. Yeah, baby!
I posted this same idea a few days ago, and I've seen a few others mention the idea, too. Let's get it rolling. If we can get the big guys (heck, DU is one of the big guys) involved, like MoveOn, we could make some noise.

I'd rather see a sooner date. We have some momentum with the memo starting to get noticed. If we could capitalize on that, it would make our job easier.

Have you tried to contact MoveOn, or any of the other such organizers? Our own Will Pitt could give some advice, and Skinner could help if we get this thing moving.

Just some preliminary ideas.

5. I don't think we could manage a sooner date.

Someone in all this is going to have to get the permits and everything for the March, we're going to want to line up speakers and possibly entertainment. We'll need plenty of time to get word out; the biggest marches each took at least a year to plan.

And, yes, jobycom, it was your suggestion that prodded me into action to get the domain name. :)

The way these things usually work is that after the actual March with tons of people coming in for the weekend, the first business day afterward about 500-1000 people stay behind to lobby Congress. It would be nice to have representatives of each Congressional District descend upon the Capitol the Monday after the March, and deliver our draft Articles of Impeachment and demand their introduction.

Can we maybe keep this kicked? Or get it onto the Greatest page?

6. Nominated. Here's the thing
There were earlier protests of the war that drew smaller crowds, and they helped build towards the big one a year later. Maybe we could do something like that? Have smaller protests, encourage protests in other cities on a single day, and build to the big one next year? We could build momentum.

8. Great idea.
Pick a "day of action," for several smaller protests in larger cities. Then keep the pressure on and keep building towards a MoWfI in summer 2006.

10. awesome!

<http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/591048046> also please consder signing one more open letter to bush -I will send it, and carry it with me to WDC collect more signatures and send it to media etc. I am also pushing a post card capaign for this month- June 9-10th are verfied voting day but at this point- so mauch has happend I am still lobbying for that but really IMPEACHMENT is our best goal really- the facts are mindbogglingly overwhelming! I have some graphics you can print out on index cards or orange poster board, more info and contact links- on my blog No Bu**sh**zone. thanks!

We the people demand our right to know the facts.
(To NOT my president)

Dear Mr. Bush;

We the people, have a right to know the truth.

We want you to answer the questions by the Hon. Rep. Conyers and 89 other members of congress, concerning the Blair/ Downing Street memo, your plans for the invasion of Iraq, and the actions you took to distort information, in order to advance your preconceived agenda.

We want to know why Scott McClellan your press secretary, blamed Newsweek magazine, for the actions of policemen in Iraq shooting and killing 15 protesters. Military officials appear to refute your claims, that a statement in the magazine referring to an investigation, of possible disrespect, and inappropriate behavior of an interrogator resulted in this violence.

We want to know who planned this course of action, apparently to further intimidate our media. As a democracy a free and non-partisan media is critical.

We further implore you to encourage unencumbered, investigations into the anomalies of the 2004 presidential elections. Please allow the investigators to examine the vast amount of documentation by voter's rights groups and University professors.

Please make a public statement encourage the media to explore this documentation and report it, without concern of retribution from your administration. We can not have real voter reform, nor restore faith in our democracy without a free press and fair elections.

11. Agreed.
We've got to keep the pressure up. Remember that at this point in 1973, most Americans thought Watergate was a brand of toothpaste.

We've got the smoking gun; we just have to draw attention to it.
