Anti-war protesters miffed at honking citations (CA)
TIBURON, Calif. A small band Tiburon residents who stage weekly peace vigils to rally against the war in Iraq have now begun protesting against area police who are citing drivers who honk in support as they pass by the gathering. <snip>

4. It IS bullshit! There are many who haven't the courage or time to
actively participate in a Rally, but still constribute A LOT by driving by offering their support and energy to the Protestors by simply honking their horns in agreement.

To now censor NOT ONLY the protestors, but those "driving by" is so obsessive and absurd. No longer in this land of Freedom have we lost Freedom of Speech, and Freedom to Assemble, but also Freedom to drive by and honk??? Is this a Saturday Night Live skit gone a wry? God forbid that someone inadvertantly brushed their elbow against theur car's horn, and got ticketed anyway for a slip of the elbow or wrist!!

Democracy sure IS on the march...goose-step style.

see how many citations are given out there... but we probably all know what the results would be anyway.

"miffed" - nice choice of words... these local media clowns must have the neocons guide to belittling liberals thesaurus (2nd ed.).

5. The Palo Alto cops don't ticket the horn honking supporters
at Embarcadero Road and El Camino Real in Palo Alto. (And Tiburon is bluer then Palo Alto).

The anomaly is that the town attorney is a Berkeley and Berkeley Law grad.

White House, holding a sign which said "Honk if you think he's guilty."

The D.C. authorities decided one honk was "free speech." Anything beyond that was considered "disturbing the peace."

8. Wow
... I live in the town next to Tiburon (Mill Valley), and every Friday, since before the war, a group of elderly citizens hold signs and protest for Peace. I ALWAYS honk my horn when I pass by, and I blast my stereo 'WHAT DO WE WANT? PEACE. WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW' (from the Hair Soundtrack) just for them.

I wonder if I'll get a ticket for this... It won't stop me from honking. I am so proud of our citizens for keeping up this weekly protest.

9. Peace demonstration stirs up bad feelings (Whittier Daily News)
TIBURON, Calif.

Protesters are locking horns with police in pacifist-packed Marin County for fining drivers who honk for peace. <snip>

"We have been picketing for a long time. All of a sudden the police are out there trying to stop the honks,' said peacenik Melvin Fiske, a corporal in the Marines during World War II. "We assume honking is as American as (apple) pie. If people want to applaud our actions it is their right to do that." <snip>

Protester William Rothman said about four weeks ago police began "lying in wait' for motorists. As soon as a driver honked, police pulled the car over. <snip>

10. There Aren't any Laws Against Ringing BELLS
Maybe we should put cable-car bells on our cars and ring those as we go by.
