Greenpeace protest ship moors in Brisbane

The Greenpeace yacht Vega has moored on the Brisbane River to campaign against the US's nuclear weapons policy. Spokesman and deckhand Ben Morrow says Greenpeace will hold several community meetings before the Vega continues its journey up the east coast.

He says the Greenpeace activists on board are considering a protest against an American submarine in waters near Brisbane.Mr Morrow says the US military should declare whether submarines travelling in Australian waters have a nuclear capacity.

"For instance, there was a nuclear-powered submarine in Brisbane yesterday and we sailed up to that and asked them if they had any nuclear weapons on board," he said.

"Of course the US confirms nor denies the presence of nuclear weapons, thereby removing our knowledge of the situation."
