OMG PLEASE sign this petition! Korea about to legalize dog meat!!

http://choimimi.com/zboarde/zboard.php?id=sign#sign

We request that the Korean President should end the policy to legalize dog meat (hygienic control of dog meat). Instead we ask that the President should promote the legislation that bans the slaughter of dogs and cats for food/medicine and prohibits the consumption of dog/cat meat.

There will be so many positive changes when Korea expels dog and cat consumption:

Why should the Korean government ignore a policy that brings so many positive changes?

Hygienic control of dog meat will result in criticism that the Korean government is encouraging the slaughter of dogs, animals most beloved by Koreans who value trust and friendship. It will break the hearts of animal lovers within Korea and abroad. It will encourage the consumption of even more dogs & cats and will create misery to even more companion animals. Such a policy will worsen Korea's already tainted image and further spread geriatric disease due to fraudulent health myths..

It is easier and requires less public resources to put a stop to the dog & cat meat trade. The costs and dangers to regulate this fraudulent industry are too great. The Korean government is ill-prepared to meet this challenge. It is not worth pleasing a minority of dog eaters and illegal dog meat traders at the expense of millions of Korean people and animals.

We request that the President rethink his opinion.

1. Better send one to China, too
And some other countries who might upset you - start with Vietnam and continue.

Cultural differences are vast here. The luxury of domesticated pets is something that not everyone in the whole world enjoys.

Personally, I think they'd do better to ban kimchi.

5. People here
who don't object to cow, chicken, turkey, fish, wild game, DO object just as strenuously to horse.

And think that the people of India are 'weird' for not eating cows.

10. I've seen photos of dogs being hog tied in cages and I've
seen video of dogs and cats being skinned while they are still alive, (almost dead but still alive). This country does have SOME regulations that require humane treatment of food animals but other countries have NONE.

I even saw one restaurant where you go through the cages and pick out the cat you want to eat for dinner.

13. This info is actually a strong argument in favor of gov't control
(and therefore sanction) of the practice. If people are going to do it anyway, then the government should at least make sure the industry is safe for humans and humane for animals.

11. I don't think legalization is a matter of "pleasing" those who eat dogmeat
The stated intent is to offer hygenic meat processing and government oversight, replacing the current black-market conditions there.

Those who think dog meat should not be consumed would have a stronger case if they directly campaigned to those who consume dog meat. Convince the minority, if you can. The government should not be used as a tool against the minority. That's tyranny.

15. Signed it!
Some cultures think cows are sacred and don't eat cows.. It's not people eating dogs that bothers me really, people eat what they eat, tigers and lions will eat a dog too..Carnivores and omnivores(like us and chimps.rats, chickens) do eat animal meat. What I am angry at is subjecting yet another species to the factory farm abuse.
I don't want to excuse Korea from doing similar bad things to anuimals that corporate farnmers in the USA do to cows pigs chickens ect...I don't want this corporate cruelty to spread to dogs too...It's bad enough so many farm animals suffer so at the hands of the greedy ones here. You can eat other animals without being cruel to them and making them a commodity.Animals like people deserve respect, love ,compassion, care and the correct diet, they deserve to be free of as much suffering as possible while they live in your care even if they are being raised for food. I do not expect greedy Korean factory farmers to be any more caring than American factory farmers when treating animals as profit making products ignoring the fact animals are living beings who deserve to be treated without cruelty while they are here and killed in a effecient painless and quick method as possible..it's called being a humane meat eater..

Death is inevitable for all living beings..But suffering alot of it can be prevented if people cared more.

The Pact of the Fire Lakota Sioux Legend*

When the world was created, First Man and First Woman struggled to stay alive and warm through the first winter. First Dog struggled also. Deep in the winter, First Dog gave birth to her pups. Each night, she huddled in the brush of the forest, longingly watching the fire, which kept First Man and First Woman warm. First Winter was severe, so cold that First Dog dared not leave her pups to search for food to fill her own belly, fearing that her pups would freeze to death in her absence. She curled around them, but the wind was bitter. Her belly shrank with hunger, and soon she had no milk. The smallest pup perished, and First Dog felt her own life draining away as she struggled to care for the remaining pups. Fearing for the fate of the others, she knew she had no choice but to approach the fire and ask First Woman and First Man to share their food and the fire's warmth.

Slowly, she crept to the fire and spoke to First Woman, who was heavy with child. I am a mother, said First Dog, and soon you will be a mother too. I want my little ones to survive, just as you will want your little one to survive. So I will ask you to make a pact. First Woman and First Man listened. I am about to die. Take my pups. You will raise them and call them Dog. They will be your guardians. They will alert you to danger, keep you warm, guard your camp, and even lay down their life to protect your life and the lives of your children. They will be companions to you and all your generations, never leaving your side, as long as Mankind shall survive. In return, you will share your food and the warmth of your fire. You will treat my children with love and kindness, and tend to them if they become ill, just as if they were born from your own belly. And if they are in pain, you will take a sharp knife to their throat, and end their misery. In exchange for this, you will have the loyalty of my children and all their offspring until the end of time.

First Man and First Woman agreed. First Dog went to her nest in the brush, and with the last of her strength, one by one, she brought her pups to the fire. As she did so, First Woman gave birth to First Child, wrapped her in Rabbit skins, and nestled First Child among the pups by the fireside. First Dog lay down by the fire, licked her pups, then walked away to die under the stars. Before she disappeared into the darkness, she turned and spoke once more to First Man "My children will honor this pact for all generations. But if Man breaks this pact, if you or your children's children deny even one Dog food, warmth, a kind word or a merciful end, your generations will be plagued with war, hunger and disease, and so this shall remain until the pact is honored again by all Mankind." With this, First Dog entered the night, and returned in spirit to the creator.
