Rapid Response team for the Supreme Court? Cause I'm a little confused.

1. No. I have nothing to do with MoveON. I only have time for the DU.

Nothing personalty. Democrats are a big tent. MoveON a good part of that. Not all. Just circumstantial for me. I feel no need to check in with a successful blog other than the one I check in with.

I'm not a Activist yet. Probably will sign up tonight.

I've been to several MoveOn House party events. The one last Sunday for the Supreme Court thing was the one I liked the least. Only a few people showed up to this party (although several others were held in the same area).

Also, I thought part of the suggested action was stupid. For instance, one suggestion was signing a petition asking President Bush to pick a moderate justice. Like Chimpy cares about petitions, or anybody else's opinion. I told the group I thought that kind of a petition was very 1970's -- i.e., feel good but completely ineffective. Instead, MoveOn wanted us to canvass the neighborhood getting people to sign a petition to our Senators (both Dems - CA). We're still not very organize here in California on a precinct level, and I thought this one-shot deal was a bad idea for a door to door thing. The others agreed, and instead, we are doing a booth outside a local supermarket, handing out a MoveOn informational flyer about the Supreme Court and also getting friendly types to sign up for MoveOn's mailing list.

I'm scheduled to do it tomorrow afternoon, but I stopped by our booth today for a few minutes. Most people were receptive, the approach was totally nonconfrontational -- just, here's an information flyer. One woman, though, blew us off by saying she didn't want activist judges legislating from the bench, and then said she watches Fox News 22 hours a day.

I lost it, and really went off on her. The other two people let me rant for a few minutes, and then the woman walked away, and I cooled off and realized I shouldn't have engaged her at all. So tomorrow I'll be good.

3. I hosted the last party

and now we are supposed to be ready to petition somewhere the day after the announcement. We agreed on where, in front of legislature in Albany, but most people work during the day and we agreed on a Saturday when most of us would be available. We are supposed to contact media about our 'event' but what if media really does show up and there are only a couple of us? Won't that look lame? And this is NY, Schumer and Clinton are with us, is it really worth it is what I'm thinking. Energy might be better spent writing letters and making calls.
