Finally got my letter written. It is difficult to scissor to one page. |
|
My letter (snail mail):
To: Senator Bill Nelson United States Senate Hart Senate Office Building Room 716 Washington, DC 20510
Senator Mel Martinez United States Senate Hart Senate Office Building Room 317 Washington, DC 20510
Dear Sirs,
In 1941 during a Congressional recess, Senator Truman drove his Dodge over 10,000 miles investigating rumors of widespread corporate mismanagement and profiteering. Convinced that the corruption was endangering the war effort in Europe and Asia, and was unpatriotic, he convinced the Senate to convene a special committee to investigate the National Defense Program.
The committee was created on March 1, 1941, and until Truman was tapped for Vice President, it was one of the most productive committees in the history of the Senate. Senator Truman saved the government millions and became a national hero for his fight against illegal profits by war profiteers.
Time has come, Gentle Sirs, to resurrect the Truman Committee. Americans are losing faith in their President. His poll numbers are down, but the poll numbers of the House and Senate are below that of the President.
Rumors of profiteering, duffle bags of dollars for contractors, and windfall profits of oil companies are turning this nation against its leaders. All these rumors should be examined, and if true, action needs to be taken to uphold the honor of the Congress.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
|

4. As I understand it, the Korean War plus Bess sank him. MacArthur |
|
was a legend, and Eisenhower's refusal to meet with him before the inaugural was a barometer of American opinion. (I'll have them home before Xmas.)

3. I am asking everyone to snail mail their senators on this issue. We |
|
need to let them know that we know and understand history.
