I first posted the idea here, but in GD, it fell off the first page fairly quickly.

Is there a phone call service DUers can provide?

I had an idea. What if some DUers volunteered to make phone calls for people? If anyone knows any emergency workers, perhaps they can have people write down one or two phone numbers of people they want to contact, to let them know the situation.

For example, if a person wanted to reach their mother and sister, they could give the emergency worker the phone numbers and a very bried message, such as I'm alive and am at _____. Then, the emergency worker could come here and let either a mod or an admin know. Those of us DUers who've been here a while (so you know we're not freepers) or maybe current and former mods could then make the phone calls for them.

If I were stuck, I'd want my parents and Mr. kt's parents to know we were alive or whatever the situation. Even if I couldn't make the call, if I know someone else had done it, I'd feel better.

Would this work? I'm willing to make phone calls. What part of this idea would work and what wouldn't? What do my fellow DUers think? I just want to help. We've given money, we've donated clothes and canned goods that is being driven to Texas this very moment. I feel so helpless.
