Activism Idea Endorsed by LA and MS DUers - But Let's Be Like FEMA...
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 02:48 AM by GeorgeBushytail
and ignore them. They are only DUers in the middle of Bush's disaster. What do they know?

DUers endorse the idea in the Mississippi State forum:

Expatriot - "Awesome idea. You have my full support. It should be a full blown DU co-sponsored event."

Liberty Belle - "Nominated. I have a large network of contacts and will help you spread the word, if this takes off. Be sure to tie it in to activities on Sept 24th, when you will have anti-administration activists in DC for the anti-war march and impeachment rally."

A DUer in the Louisiana Forum:

AnnInLa - "I think it is a fabulous idea, but people here are a little involved right now. I sure hope this idea takes off, tho, and thanks alot!"

Wow, an idea Katrina survivor DUers are enthusiastic about! What an opportunity for DU Activist Headquarters to listen to our brothers and sisters right there one the ground. To listen and act.

If this bores you or makes you nervous, go sign a petition. And put me on your DU ignore list.

The rest of you I beg to read on.

Camp Katrina on The Mall.

Imagine 50,000 Katrina survivors camped on Bush's doorstep. In the seat of government and media. Demanding answers and change. Camped for as long as it takes.

Imagine Camp Katrina dominating the media during Katrina investigations, the SCOTUS hearings, 9/24, Bush's impeachment...

I'd love to see a small encampment by 9/11 to cut the knees out from under the obscene triumphalism Bush will try to shove down our throats on that day.

There is a history of protest encampments in DC - the Bonus Marchers and VVAW and Kerry. Google it.

Let's talk to survivors and see if this makes sense to them.

We only need to spread the idea and if it is solid angry activist survivors will take it as their own. It has to come from them.

Good news is that the Freeway Bloggers are going to be involved - some real in-the-street activists.

Please spread the idea of Camp Katrina. Have fun with it. Be creative.

Ideas:

-Make the right wing echo chamber work for us
-Send in tips to Drudge pointing to DU threads on Camp Katrina.
-Set up a troll account on FR and complain about how the crazy DUmmies are going to try to pull another Camp Casey, but this time with 50,000 looters.
-Spread it in comments on Kos and Wonkette.
-Email the meme to local newspapers.
-Tattoo it on your genitals and be very promiscuous.
-Whatever it takes.

Some threads on Camp Katrina:

I am a very tired disabled 53-year old keyboard activist. If anyone wants to help, jump in - it's not an organization but a bunch of people trying to spread the idea. Right now there are a handfull of us pushing it.

If Camp Katrina happens it will make history.

GeorgeBushytail, patronizingly holier-than-thou very effective grizzled Activist

I have been intentionally rude. Deal with it. Now is no time for faint hearts.

1. I just sent this tip to Drudge
"Camp Katrina on the DC Mall buzzing through leftie blogs. Protest encampment on the Mall like Hoovervilles - Bushvilles. Camp Katrina said to open on 9/11 to undercut Bush Freedom March. 50,000 Katrina survivors estimated. Media focus Camp Casey X 50,000."

5. Replied to an email from Michael Moore
and pointed out this suggestion as a possible extension on the Camp Casey theme for post-rescue.

3. I left this comment on a blog entry describing horrible FEMA housing
Read the story of the horrifying condition in FEMA camps:

http://blueowlsix.blogspot.com/2005/09/welcome-to-rockies-now-get-behind.html#comments

I left this comment:
"Please help us spread the word about Camp Katrina on The Mall.

On 9/11 survivors of Katrina will commit an act of Civil disobedience by setting up an illegal camp on the Washington DC Mall. Camp Katrina will stay there as long as it takes to get answers and change.

There is some discussion of this at DU:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=106&topic_id=22766

I ask any who read this to send one email to a newspaper or another political blog to spread the cause of Camp Katrina on The Mall.

When I read this horrifying blog entry I am convinced that Camp Katrina will make history."
