democratic underground meetup DU UNITE!
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 12:11 PM by saline
Hey! I went to meetup.com with the intention of starting a democratic underground meetup and was pleasantly surprised to find that there already was one. Unfortunately it's really, really small. We need more people to go and register on meetup.com and sign up for the DU meetup.

If you don't know what meetup is I'll tell you. It's simply an organizational tool for people to get together for real face to face discussion, eating, acting and what not. It's very easy to use and absolutely free (although there are sections you can pay for if you want, I don't).

There are also seperate meetups for most political candidates and not just for the presidency, Senate, House, Governor, if you suggest a politician for a meetup they'll likely accept it they're really cool about it.

For instance the top political meetups are:

1. Dean in 2004 (>111,400 members)
2. Clark in 2004 (>13,900)
3. Kucinich in 2004 (>12,600)

(cool huh?)

So go check it out, register and lets us DUer's meet each other in a more real sense and properly organize resistance. This is the grassroots and as Democrats, liberals, everyday people this is what we do best, it's our home turf and it's time to take it back from the freepin' republicans. See you there.

Oops, forgot to provide a link:

the way we fight like cats and dogs (or cats and cats!) on this site I'm honestly not so sure it's a good idea!

2. you'd think

Except that people are a lot nastier on line than they are in real life because of the (somewhat unfounded) sense of anonymity and a difficulty in fully comprehending the idea that they are talking to a real person. It's much different in real life, trust me. There are some really cool studies that talk about this.

7. Besides the studies...
the one DU gettogether I went to was full of warm fuzzies.

People who actually go to these things are not necessary the fighters, and even if they are, they are in sociable mode, not fight mode.

I have been to other internet events where peeps who were ready to kill each other in the group and in email were the best of friends when they actually got together face to face.

8. We need more everybody
To sign up, I'm the only person near Cleveland signed up, ONLY PERSON, you can't really have the meetings without four people (and even that is kinda hard).

Tell your friends, tell your co-workers, spread the word on DU and online everywhere, meetup.com is where it's at!

10. CLEVELAND AND EVERYONE LETS DO THIS!
Alright I'm tired of Cleveland being top of the crap heap. We need to get together and ensure Ohio goes blue 2004. I'm still the only person registered for the Cleveland meetup. Not only that Columbus Ohio is the place with the most registered voters! Columbus (nothing against them)!? Where's New York (only two registered)? San Francisco(none)? Seattle(none!)?

People, take the time, this is a commitment but you can't say it's not worth it. This is the beginning, it's time to get together, time to organize now. We have to contend against organization thats been going on for nearly a decade it's time for us to get our act together!

If you're opposed to big money in your campaigns then you must act at the grassroots.

If you're opposed to lying TV ads about our dem candidates then you need to get out and talk with other dems and then expand beyond that to the uneducated public. It's just like Clinton said tonight at the steak fry, it would be surprising if more than 5% of the country knew the horrible things the republicans are doing. It's up to us!

This is the beginning, if we're serious about this, if this is more than some mental exercise we engage in while watching the country implode then it's time to show it.

Organize now or regret it later.
