State Directors
State Directors will create statewide organizing campaigns that will build coalitions of progressive organizations, recruit and train candidates and activists, and develop an aggressive voter contact program that will accomplish issue education, issue ID, and voter registration in targeted swing and base communities. Responsibilities will include developing targeting and writing a campaign plan, writing a budget and in-state fundraising, political and press outreach, and training and managing staff.

This position requires experience running a statewide campaign and strong leadership skills. Experience with fundraising, communications, voter file management, and issue or community organizing campaign experience is required. Candidates must be goal oriented and highly disciplined.

Community Organizer / Canvass Organizer, AFL - CIO
Responsibilities: Help build a powerful movement to address the concerns of working people. Train for a leadership role on a team doing door-to-door community organizing and canvassing, membership recruitment and fund-raising, volunteer recruitment, grassroots lobbying, direct voter contact on election campaigns. Rapid advancement to leadership positions, including training in organizational and campaign management.

Experience in any of the above responsibilities helpful but not required. Staff will be assigned in two steps: first to an office that is a training center, then to a longer-term assignment. The training program may include temporarily working with organizations in addition to the AFL - CIO. Staff may apply for assistance with travel and first month living expenses in a new city. Work schedule includes evenings and some weekends (when more people are home). First month of employment is on a probationary basis.

• Starting Pay: $19,000 per year plus benefits and bonuses
• Earning Potential: Staff qualifying for leadership positions can expect to earn $22,000 to $30,000 first year depending on responsibilities and performance
