Giant Statue of President George W. Bush with Pants Ablaze to be welcomed with pomp and circumstance
Tampa, FL - Local activists will tow a giant statue of President George W Bush with his pants aflame throughout the Tampa Bay area beginning Monday, February 9. At 8 PM on Monday, February 9, 2004, a rally overflowing with Presidential pomp and circumstance will be held to welcome the statue to Tampa.
Norwood Orrick, one of the local organizers, promises an all-American event. "Like a good old fashioned political rally, there will be hot dogs and sodas, plenty of bunting and flags, and even a band to greet President George with an original version of Hail to the Thief," says Orrick. "It may well be the most exciting Monday night in Tampa in recent memory!"
Sponsored by TrueMajorityACTION, the George W Bush Pants on Fire-mobile is in the midst of a cross country tour and will be visiting the Tampa area for about a week. The statue will be parked during the day in the 2900 block of N Tampa St., just north of downtown, and at night it will be cruising Tampa area streets.
The 12 foot high statue is mounted on a flatbed trailer and pulled by a Ford Crown Victoria with diplomatic style American flags waving from the fenders. The flames actually are artificial fire that looks very realistic. George is outlined in electroluminescent wire for a very spooky effect (and so he's visible at night).
Orrick, 38, a Tampa activist and host of WMNF's MorningWood radio show, says that "the pants on fire-mobile is a lighthearted way to point out the numerous deceptions and outright lies that President Bush is increasingly being caught in. Lies about weapons of mass destruction, lies about nuclear programs, and lies about ties to Al Quaeda convinced many Americans to support Bush's Iraq invasion. Now, over 500 American soldiers have died, countless others bear horrible physical and mental scars, Iraq is a quagmire, and more and more people are waking up to the fact that the American people were deceived and lied to by the Bush administration over and over again."
The construction of the statue and the purchase of its tow vehicle were made possible by the members of TrueMajorityACTION.
