MARCH FOR WOMEN'S LIVES APRIL 25 (Tons of important info!)
MARCH FOR WOMEN'S LIVES APRIL 25

** Sunday, April 25, 2004 **

CHOICE * JUSTICE * ACCESS * HEALTH
2004 MARCH FOR WOMEN'S LIVES
GLOBAL FEMINISM * FAMILY PLANNING
(Washington, DC)

NEW: Check out this Mini Movie!
Check out The Right-Wing Eye (www.rightwingeye.com), a satirical
production
based on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy®--it's a hoot! Not to
mention great
motivation to march... (NOTE: There is no affiliation,
association, or
endorsement by Queer Eye for the Straight Guy®, its producers,
or Bravo®.)

UPDATE: Projected TWICE as Large as the 1992 March!
Be part of this history making, largest ever civil rights
demonstration of
women's rights activists and abortion rights supporters. NOW
will be joined
by more than 1,200 organizations—including some of the nation’s
leading
women’s, civil rights, health and faith organizations—all
mobilizing
hundreds of thousands of Americans who will descend on DC.
Delegations from
around the world will march to the White House and Capitol to
demand that
all women—regardless of income, age, race and ethnicity—be able
to exercise
their reproductive rights through equal access to safe
abortions, birth
control (including emergency contraception), reproductive and
pre-natal
health care, safe delivery and comprehensive, medically-accurate
sex
education.

NEW: Whoopi Goldberg * Charlize Theron * Ashley Judd *
Julianne Moore * Janeane Garofalo * Christina Aguilera *
A star-studded line-up of more than 100 celebrities—including
Helen Hunt,
LisaGay Hamilton, Bradley Whitford, and Whoopi Goldberg—have
joined the
March for Women's Lives coalition. An amazing array of
well-known actors,
comedians, and musicians have joined forces to send the message
that women,
not politicians, must have the right to make deeply personal
decisions about
their health and lives. See the very end of this message for a
list of
celebrity coalition participants.

UPDATE: Where to Meet / Find Your Group:
As you approach the Mall area, look for clearly identified March
volunteers
who will point you to the Baltimore/Maryland NOW delegation on
the Mall. The
Mall will be divided into three grids. Baltimore NOW and all
state chapters
are grouped under Maryland NOW within the first grid, closest to
the stage
and official activities. Be sure to tell the March volunteer
that you are with.

NEW: March Agenda:
10:00 a.m. -- Line-up -- National Mall between the Smithsonian
museums
(between 3rd & 14th)
Metro stations: Smithsonian, L'Enfant Plaza, Federal Triangle,
Union
Station, Archives-Navy Memorial

10 a.m. to Noon -- Kick-Off -- Morning Stage on the Mall
(towards the 14th
Street end)
Celebrities, March leaders, and VIP speakers will lead a morning
rally.

Noon to 1:00 p.m. -- March on Washington!
Participants move forward in unity to show that we demand to
move forward
with women's rights, not backwards!

1-4:00 p.m. -- Rally -- Afternoon Stage on the Mall (towards the
3rd Street
end)
Rally with March leaders, celebrities, and VIP speakers. People
will be
selected randomly by the March Production team to tell their
stories about
why they are marching to show on the large plasma screens during
the
afternoon rally so have yours ready

Special Needs & Disabilities:
Special seating will be available for people with disabilities.
The rally
program will be signed for the hearing impaired. The route is
wheelchair
accessible and transportation will be provided for those who
cannot
negotiate the route.

NEW: Important Information to Know:
1. There will be First Aid Tents set up near the large
projection screens.
There will also be Lost and Found Tents near the Stages. Diaper
changing
areas will be available.
2. There are some limitations on what can be brought to the
National Mall:
No stakes thicker than 1" x 2" and No firearms!

Volunteers are needed anytime on Saturday at the DC Armory
(across from RFK
Stadium), and also needed Sunday at metro stations for just an
hour or so as
early as 6:30am to greet handicapped marchers, help set-up NOW
signs, assist
with march sales, and so on. Please contact National NOW if you
can help at
all: chapinfo@now.org or call 202-628-8669, x 160. Thank you for
your
activism!

Helpful March Tips:
DO wear comfortable shoes.
DO wear layers of clothes and bring rain gear. The weather in
Washington is
changeable at this time of year. It could start out chilly in
the morning
and become very warm by the afternoon!
DO bring sunscreen and a camera.
DO bring enough food and water for the entire day. Large coolers
are not
permitted, but small, handheld ones, as well as backpacks and
small bags
are.
DO NOT rely on getting food and water supplies at the Mall. You
are likely
to face long lines.
DO leave early enough to allow for lots of traffic going into
DC. If
possible, park outside the city and take the metro in.
DO NOT plan to get to DC in the amount of time it would normally
take. With
tens of thousands of buses heading into the city that day, you
should expect
a lot of traffic.
DO use the metro red lines when possible.
DO NOT use orange/blue lines if possible because they will be
extremely
crowded.
DO NOT use the Smithsonian metro stop on the orange/blue line if
possible,
as it will be over crowded.
DO use these metro stops on March day:
* Red: Metro Center, 12th and F, Union Station, 1st and
Massachusetts
* Yellow & Green: Archives/Navy, 7th & Penn, L’Enfant Plaza,
Maryland & 7th,
SW
* Orange & Blue: Metro Center, 12th and F, Smithsonian, 12th and
Jefferson
Federal Triangle, 12th near PA, McPherson Sq., 15th and I,
Farragut West,
17th and I
* For other stops and more information, visit
http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm.

NEW: Hot off the Presses:
Check out a great article released yesterday on Salon.com
showing just how
scary the attacks on choice have gotten. If you have friends who
aren't yet
convinced that there's a reason to March, maybe this story will
convince
them:

2. Kerry to Speak
I'm going to the rally; is John Kerry going to speak? The freepers say he's backing off abortion rights. I don't believe it.

4. whoopie to mc events and Dean will be in the march
I did not see kerry even listed as being there.
Dean has been telling everyone he will be there and marching. He isn't afraid to have an opinion different than repubs or centrists.

Dean supports women a lot. Nice to see in a politician. Makes sense why his state gave him the primary even after dropping out.

Would love to see dennis kunich there? Wonder if he would show.
