Very soon, the Senate will be voting on amending the constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
But that is not all. The language of S.RES.275 could be interpreted to ban civil unions between homosexuals.
Anyway, I called my Senators (Graham and Nelson). Both offices indicated that the rep opposes the legislation. They are getting A LOT of calls from people who support it. So, even if you think your Senator is against this amendment, call his/her office, the staffers will appreciate the kind words and encouragement.
Follow this link if you need to look up your rep's phone number. Please call, I think it is so much more effective than e-mail. If your rep supports this amendment, be polite.
http://capwiz.com/hrc/dbq/officialsInterestingly enough, the bill also states that the purpose of marriage is to bear and raise children, which makes one wonder if some right wing-nut couldn't use this to restrict heterosexual unions where there is no possibility and/or desire to reproduce.
With all due respect, who the hell are Senators Nickles, Allard, Brownback, Bunning, Cornyn, Santorum and Sessions to try and define MY marriage?!
Call your Senators and tell them you do not support the federal government defining marriage or amending discrimination into the Constitution.
