Join Protest At Bush Speech Friday Morning in Kutztown PA
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 10:21 AM by JPZenger
A pro-Kerry, anti-Bush rally is scheduled for Friday morning (July 9th) where Bush is speaking in Kutztown PA. Kutztown is on Business Route 222, about 15 minutes off of Interstate 78, and is halfway between Allentown and Reading.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the corner of Trexler Ave. and Baldy St. in
Kutztown, catty-corner from Kutztown University's Keystone Arena /
fieldhouse where Bush will be speaking. This corner property is owned by a Kerry supporter, who has volunteered use of the front lawn. Parking is available at the high school parking lot on Trexler Ave., though it's 1/2 - 1 mile from the site.

Signs will be available at the rally, or bring your own. If you bring your own sign, the Kerry campaign suggests a jobs / economy theme (sample slogans: Kerry-Edwards = jobs; Outsource Bush-Cheney; Halliburton got my tax cut; Give W. a pink slip etc.).

After we convene at Trexler & Baldy, it's possible some or all of us will move to a different location, depending on how things develop.

1. More Info
Here's more info from the Allentown Morning Call, www.mcall.com:

"2,500 tickets for Bush's visit had been distributed, a spokeswoman for the Bush-Cheney campaign said, including 100 that were given to the university. The university's tickets — made available to faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis — were gone in less than 10 minutes.

Although it's too late to score a seat for Bush's visit, supporters and protesters will be able to gather at Alumni Plaza, near Main Street and north of Keystone Hall, where Bush will speak, university spokeswoman Ritta Basu said.

Basu said the university has received requests for information on where people can protest. She did not know how many plan to do so or whether the president's motorcade will pass by Alumni Plaza.

Kutztown Borough Police Chief Randy Cole said he knows the president's route but, under orders from federal agents, cannot confirm whether Bush will travel down Main Street.

The president, who is coming for a session titled ''Ask President Bush,'' is expected to speak late in the morning and leave the university by 1 p.m."
