For those of you planning peaceful, civil disobedient, or other forms of protest: The National Lawyers Guild provides legal observers as much as is possible. But remember a Legal Observer is there to document potential police misconduct. I worked the 2000 Republican Convention, and there were many instances where protesters where arrested and detained out of our site and suffered from police misconduct. Please remember we cannot interfere with the police. We try to establish contact with the police Civil Affairs Units, we try to put the police at ease --- which never happens, but we are going to be there for you, the protesters=---- AS observers. We cannot help you actively. So if you see legal observers near you, don't think it will be any safer to commit an act of protest. We cannot help you. We can only document the incident with photos, notes and create a file.

for the info, and there will be no civil disobedience, at least on my part. Thanks for all that you and your associates are doing.

for the excellent description of your function, duties, & delineation, this will help many protesters.
And my sincerest thanks to the observers that selflessly risk being in harm's way in order to record these events.
