As of Dec 23 Lt. Col. Scott D. Ross of the U.S. military's Transportation Command (said) his outfit had evacuated 3,255 battle-injured casualties and 18,717 non-battle injuries. Of the battle casualties, 473 died and 3,255 were wounded by hostile fire. (the major categories/non-battle evacuations - but not all reasons shown):

Orthopedic surgery – 3,907

General surgery – 1,995

Internal medicine – 1,291

Psychiatric – 1,167

Neurology – 1,002

Gynecological – 491


The Pentagon has never won prizes for the accuracy of its reporting, but I think it’s safe to say that so far somewhere between 14,000 and 22,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines have been medically evacuated from Iraq to the USA.<snip>



So at the end of this turbulent year, we must ask ourselves: Was the price our warriors paid in blood worth the outcome? Are we any safer than before our pre-emptive invasion? <snip>


Our first New Year’s resolution should be to find out if the stated reasons for our pre-emptive strike – Iraq's purported weapons of mass destruction and Saddam’s connection with al-Qaeda – constituted a real threat to our national security. Because, contrary to public opinion, the present administration hasn’t yet made the case that Saddam and his sadists aided and abetted al-Qaeda's attacks on 9/11. We also need to know why our $30 billion-a-year intelligence agencies didn’t read the tea leaves correctly, as well as what’s being done besides upgrading the color code to prevent other similar strikes. <snip>

Degrading Medals: The Same Old Game - Soldier writes -Our commander, who was only here for 4 months before being allowed to PCS to the states was submitted for a MSM and a Bronze Star..on the SAME write up (AND I note that Reagan gave out more medals for our Grennada Island adventure to arrest 30 Cubans than were handed out in ? - memory fades - I want to say VietNam - but someone should check - in any case the military avoiders known as the GOP sure like to offset their chickenhawk resumes by giving out medals - and it works - 57% of military is solid GOP).

3. Liebermann says...

.. If Dean was in power then Hussein would be in power today.

I say if Liebermann's werent in the Democratic party then the party would have been able to unite to stop the war and thus 1000s of Americans wouldnt be dead or crippled for life.

Gore was right to tell others to shut up. Dean was the one right on this and he is the one right on many other issues. Dean is kicking butt with double didget leads in the party primary. But the loosers ( Liebermann,etc.) can wound him enough that by the general election the GOP propaganda machine and right wing media will cause Dean trouble with emotion (ie "unpatriotic" and "pro Hussein) and distorted history .

Gore was right (in 2004 lol). What he was thinking by proping up people like Liebermenn in 2000 is beyond me.Now the whole party has to suffer thanks to this GOP mouthpiece Liebermann (for hopefully ONLY the rest of 04)till he gets clobbered bad enough that he shuts up in the future eventually.
