I going to represented by another repuke <sigh>
My area is really conservative and most are conservative repukes.

Cass Ballenger, my rep, is retiring.......

"U.S. Rep. Cass Ballenger of Hickory announced Tuesday that he will not run for a 10th consecutive term, ending a successful yet controversial political career spanning almost four decades....."

1. Are you eligible to run?
If so, take a stab at it! The only thing worse than having a conservative repuke Congressman every time is letting them run without opposition.

2. Vote in the Republican primary
The Democratic presidential race will be over by the time it gets to North Carolina. If you live in a safe Republican district and you want to at least have some say in who your next Representative is then vote in the Republican primary.

4. It is pretty dam rare to find a decent Republican
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 04:19 AM by cyclezealot
In the Congress less than 25 members of Congress are decent. About 80% of the House repugs. have signed Grover Norquists' no tax pledge. Maybe two or three in the Senate. Says it all. Trying to find a decent Repug. is a waste of time. I would keep in mind it is more important to select better Democrats for state cabinet levels, US Senate. I would not give up my Democratic voice. Would that cost him a chance to select the next Democratic presidential nominee.

5. LOL! His wife's social life was threatened!
He also was a vocal opponent of a 1995 House ban on gifts from lobbyists, which he said hurt the social lives of their wives. Ballenger is separated from his wife, Donna, but he said they are still friends.

OH NO!! His wife's social life could have been ruined! You know, Cass only makes $150,000 per year, too little to buy his wife any gifts.

6. Hey
at least you're getting rid of the guy who in part blames the breakup of his marriage on living next door to an Islamic organization.

7. Alas, me too
I live in the 13th district of Illinois (conservative suburbs west of Chicago). My representative is Republican Judy Biggert -- a nice lady on the surface, but a loyal practioner of Bush-style deception.

Although I knew she would vote for the Iraqi War Resolution in October '02, I petitioned her to reconsider. In response, I received a form letter in which she explained that 9/11 demonstrated "never before have weapons of mass destruction and state-sponsored terrorism come together with such devastating effect".

I wrote her a letter pointing out that box cutters are not WMD, that Al Qaeda is not a "state", and that if any state sponsored them it was Saudi Arabia, not Iraq.

When I urged her to vote against tax cuts for the rich that would burden us with huge budget deficits, her form letter response declared "91 million taxpayers received a tax cut averaging $1,126."

This time I didn't waste my time explaining that her statement was true in the same sense that the average income of patrons at the local tavern is $5 million a year -- after Bill Gates sits down to have a drink.

I'm no longer surprised when Republican politicians issue transparently deceptive statements that insult the intelligence of their constituents, but I'm still trying to figure out why they continue to receive so much support from those same constituents.
