Edwards gets endorsement of Des Moines Register - huge!
From the Raleigh News and Observer:

EDWARDS GETS REGISTER ENDORSEMENT
(01/10/04) U.S. Sen. John Edwards has won the endorsement of The Des Moines Register, Iowa's largest newspaper, campaign aides said.
An editorial is scheduled for Sunday's paper.

Would someone post when it is available?

2. You're too young, I guess
In the fifties and part of the sixties, there were magazine advertisements of wholesome pretty women (almost all blondes or light brown hair) with clean, shiny, perfect hair. The term was applied to Edwards by someone in the White House in an attempt to diminish him. Doesn't look like it worked with the Register.

3. It's a way to feminize a quality -- good hair --which is sort of masculine
Politicians for decades have had hair anxiety. So when one comes along with good hair, what are his opponents going to do? Well, spin it. Make it into a femine quality. This is especially effective in a time in American history when the government is trying to subtly encourage an anti-feminist backlash (anything girlish and not about war is bad).

Edwards, to his credit, embraced it. The started handing out breck shampoo to the press corps.

It shows that Edwards is not going to run from women voting for feminism. He's not going to try to out-masculine the Republicans. The see that there is more power in tapping into women who sense the backlash and don't like it then there is power in riding the wave of the backlash.

5. I received one of those shampoo bottles
when I attended Edwards's announcement, they were giving them out to everybody and I still have mine by my computer. Mine has an Edwards sticker across the front, and I was curious at first as to why they were giving them out. Now I know.

They really are pretty clever when it comes to those things. At the announcement, their press passes had his high school football photo on it.

4. We can feel the momentum...
Edwards is gaining strength at just the right time. He is the only candidate that can beat Bush in November.
