Kucinich on O'Neill Revelations
January 11, 2004
Dennis' campaign for the presidency developed out of
the response to a speech he gave in February 2002
opposing the Bush Administration's build-up to a war
on Iraq.

Dennis today released this statement in response to
former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill's charges that
President Bush entered office in January 2001 intent
on invading Iraq and was in search of a way to go
about it:

"These revelations are not just about the past. The
Bush Administration is still with us. They manufactured
justifications for the war, and they are now
manufacturing justifications for continuing this
occupation. The war is not over, and the invention of
justifications for it is not over. Even Democratic
presidential candidates are joining in. But the idea that
we can stabilize Iraq and develop a legitimate
democracy prior to turning control over to the United
Nations is as impossible to believe as were the claims
about an imminent threat from vast stockpiles of
weapons of mass destruction."

1. A true voice of reason
Kucinich really cuts to the heart of the matter. The more informed I become about politics and the world, the more I come around to Kucinich's point of view on just about everything.

4. Me, too.
It was such a shock in the beginning. I kept pinching myself to make sure what I was hearing was real. Even now, after a year of following him very closely, and two in-person meetings, it still surprises me. He addresses the heart of the matter, where politicians and politics usually focus on symptoms. He makes connections, so that no issue is viewed in isolation from the whole.

For the first time in my life, I am actually enthusiastic about the candidate who is getting my vote!

2. "These revelations are not just about the past."
So true. Thanks DK for stating the obvious but which I have not yet seen stated by anyone else.

3. Once again, Kucinich leads, the pack follows
It happened during the IWR fight. DK bravely led the House opposition against his own party's leadership. While other candidates were grandstanding and making speeches, DK was in the trenches, trying to stop the Repubs and pro-war Dems.

It happened with Diebold. DK posted their scurrilous memos on his congressional site, and then Kerry et. al. denounced them, too.

It even happened last night, when Lieberman tried to co-opt the "Fear Ends, Hope Begins" slogan.

DK is truly the heart and soul of our party. In a perfect world, ALL Democrats would be this brave.
