With GD2004 down, it looks like my wish has come true! So ha - ha to all you cynics who said we couldn't go 24 hours without attacking each other in the GD2004 board. All it takes the total destruction of the forum itself. What a sweet sweet victory this is for me personally

2. I'm secretly hoping it stays gone for good
Or if it comes back, to have it tightly moderated where threads have to pass through a moderator before getting posted.

4. Too cumbersome.
I believe that pro-active tombstoning of ass hats is all that's required to make GD-P2004 a semi-civil place. :)

6. If Slashdot can do it, so can DU
Especially since it is just in one forum. I know it won't happen. Just daydreaming about a time when there aren't fifty threads all about Dean's crumpled tie and how it means he sucks.

5. It's so civil in Politics and Campaign
I would like GD 2004 to not come back. It was way too nasty in there.

Bucky...I guess you have a special in with Skinner. ;-)

7. Heh, I wish.
Actually I found myself rising to the volume of invective at GD2004. In two weeks I got three pings for breaking the rules, challenged two and got them repealed.

Then I got a fourth post removed and I know it was a bogus removal (my post was deleted because I called someone "my dear Dean supporting friend" instead of "Dean supporter"). I was all about to appeal that one too, but then said to hell with it. The moderators were obviously overworked. I'll take the lump I don't deserve and just learn to write to formula better.

Then the denial of service attack happened and I got pissed and got a FIFTH post removed -- this one I earned for being a jerk. (It was meant to be satirical, making fun of the fake pro-Lieberman threads that were probably part of the attack, but that forum was not the right venue for satire and the humor was a little over the top anyhoo). With a total of three posts removed plus two others acquitted and reinstated on appeal, I realized I was not being my better self at GD2004.

So I'm saying I went too far; I was part of the problem rather than the solution... and these last two were just 2 days after I put in the post calling for the cease fire. Yes, let that forum be gone. It caused Skinner and the mods too much time and effort. They're too good to us and babysitting internet nerds should not be their priority.

All that heat did produce some light, in my opinion. I'm a far sharper arguer on this year's issues and a LOT more informed about the candidates. But perhaps that joint's contentiousness has served its purposes and the forum is best gone for a while. I'd miss that noble experiment, but not mourn its passing.
