helped. It's pretty hard to imagine, the unions, Al Gore, et al doing harm but I think the dogfight in the polls nationwide, in Iowa and NH demonstrates that endorsements are useful but not decisive.

It seems to me that one area where an endorsement like Gore's would be especially helpful would be in fundraising.

3. they are largely neutral from people
but a few people read the paper to see who is running and the paper will frequently but their endorsement at the top of the list.

But in the primaries I think they only serve to hurt as you risk hooking to someone that a person hates. This is especially true of entertainers. May be good in NYC or LA but a negative elsewhere.

But there is an irony that Dean's becoming the candidate with the Democratic insider's support while running as the anti-Dem establishment campaign.

Still, Dean has gotten some fabulous endorsements and I think it helps a lot.

All the candidates get endorsements.
