CMB set to drop out...
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 12:52 AM by HumanPatriot
Well...this is sad, but that time for her seems to be approaching. If the news is true, then this is quite a development, and quite unexpected. Furthermore, if such proves to be true, an endorsement for Dean would make serious waves. My appreciation for her clean and honorable campaign can hardley be expressed in words.

In light of such movements, I do not think there is much left for me to do, if this proves to be true, than to fully throw my support behind Doctor Dean. He is truly the only one left in the race that has earned my vote if she drops out, or has not lost it yet (besides DK). I could ramble on constantly about such reasons, and will if people wish to know them. But pending upon the formal announcement tommorrow, I will ready myself to make my first campaign contribution ever, which will hopefully lead to my first vote ever. Never is it too late to become a politically active member of this society it seems. :)

I wholeheartedly thank CMB for her contribution on the behalf of women and African Americans. And if this proves to be true, I fully congratulate the doctor and hope there is a place in his admin for the ambassador. :)

Best of luck to Dr Dean and Kucinich in the coming months!

1. CMB is without a doubt the most articulate candidate
Maybe even the most articulate American out there.

If this is true, I hold high hopes for a cabinet position for her in the winning Democratic administration.

3. Thanks for posting..
CMB was always graceful and well-spoken in the debates..I could have guessed that she would endorse Dean, they seem friendly towards each other and she defended him in the last debate.

Best wishes to CMB and whatever she decides to do next. :)

4. Yes, HumanPatriot --
-- CMB should be in the Cabinet after we Democrats oust Bush. I wish political success wasn't tied to money, but it is, and CMB STILL ran a purposeful, well-communicated and honorable campaign.

With far less money, she stood just as tall on the stage of her eight opponents. I'm going to miss her.

From CBSnews.com: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20040115/D8033PKO0.html

"She's a principled person. We just hit it off. I like her a lot," Dean told reporters at a hotel in Fort Dodge, where he was spending the night after starting a statewide bus tour.

"It's going to be a big help to us," he said.

But wait! There's more...

Elected to the Senate in 1992 during the "Year of the Woman," Braun lost the seat after one term due to allegations about her ethics and improper campaign spending.

Braun had also fallen under criticism for meeting in 1996 with Gen. Sani Abacha, the late dictator of Nigeria who had been accused of myriad human rights violations, during a trip to the country for a friend's memorial. She did not tell the State Department in advance, which she later said she regretted not doing.

-snip-

Ah regrets. I bet she's had a few, and she'll have a few more. :-)

"Principled?" LOL. Oh boy, Governor Dean, you're a laffaminute, just like your entire campaign.

Most of us were right - she WAS kissing Dean's ass during the debates, and here is the result.

Uh oh.

11. who knows?
Maybe no one. He doesn't play by the normal rules. I don't think people who endorse Dean are the devil. I still like Gore and Bradley, and realize that this is just politics, and I can suffer small disappointments. I personally don't care much about endorsements as a matter of influence or importance. So I don't have any qualms (or "sour grapes", which is highly laughable) about CMB endorsing Dean. It matters very little.

But that is beside the point. The point of my post was to show everyone what kind of coverage the mainstream media will present. Plus, that coverage is NOTHING compared to what the Repubs are preparing for Dean as this thing goes on. and on.

I just enjoyed the juxtaposition of Dean's words with CMB being "principled" versus her undeniably checkered ethical history. It is fun for me to watch the Dean supporters spin these kinds of stories like Linda Blair's head.

Politics is one of my forms of entertainment, and this was a funny little story. :-)

12. A Sad Day for Women
Elected in the year of the women in 1992 to office, and having served her country with distinction as ambassador to New Zealand, Braun's candidacy brought much to the current field Democratic candidates for President. It is unfortunate that Braun's candidacy for president never took off. Yet, what is truly an insult to women is not that former ambassador Mosley Braun is dropping out, it is that she did not drop out and gather the composure for at least 24 hours taking in her campaign, allowing the field to tip their hats.

The true insult to women in America is that she must leave her campaign and immediately endorse front runner Howard Dean; by doing so Braun has denied herself even the ability to concede defeat alone, she must share the limelight with Dean in her final hour, and all talk will be regarding her endorsement, as if her candidacy was merely an afterthought. To pull out of the race and immediately endorse the front-runner is not only disempowering, but of all things this final act, more than any singular event makes her candidacy appear whimsical. It is truly a low point for politics for women in the modern era.
