Head to caucuses. support Kerry
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 05:55 AM by Feanorcurufinwe
By Joseph Bubman
January 15, 2004

Disillusioned with the direction the Bush administration is taking our country, many of us enjoyed listening to Dean's scathing assessment of our government's failed policies. But while the doctor has provided a diagnosis of this administration's ills, he fails to offer a compelling prescription.

Students critically evaluating all of the candidates might find that the vision and experince of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry make him the most qualified to be the next president.

Like many others I am impressed by how Dean has risen from obscure governor to front-runner by exciting disaffected young voters previously alienated from politics. But I am far more impressed by Kerry's plan to encourage young Americans to serve their nation by offering four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of service.

Only Kerry can stand up to Bush on the issues that will decide this election. When Bush tries to make this election about national security, I want him opposed by a Vietnam War hero who has served in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 19 years.

When Bush tries to cover up the 3 million jobs lost during his term, I want him opposed by a visionary promoting a new energy plan that will create 500,000 new jobs while ending our reliance on Middle Eastern oil.

When Bush discusses his ironically named "Clear Skies" policy, I want him opposed by an environmental champion who led the fight in the Senate to block the Bush administration's proposal to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Meanwhile, in Dean's five campaigns for governor in liberal Vermont, he was not endorsed a single time by the Sierra Club's state chapter.

As the United States leads a global fight against terrorism, who do we want in the White House? Another national security novice seeking on-the-job training? Or an esteemed, global-minded leader like Kerry committed to ensuring the United States once again becomes a respected and revered leader in the world?

Kerry has surged in Iowa partly because many voters initially attracted to Dean are getting serious about choosing our next president. I urge you to volunteer for Kerry in Iowa and join me in assisting with his campaign in New Hampshire anytime between now and the Jan. 27 primary.

Dean is fond of urging voters to "take our country back" -- Kerry has the best vision for taking it forward.

2. Kerry voted for IWR
Kerry is against IWR THIS WEEK. He was for the invasion the week we capture Saddam. He was against the invasion the week before we captured Saddam. He was for the invasion the month the troops were rolling toward Baghdad.

Kerry has missed half his votes this Congress. Kerry runs from controversial votes like a vegan runs from Philly Cheesesteaks.

4. No. Kerry has always been for holding Saddam accountable.
He preferred it be done diplomatically and through thorough weapons inspections as per the IWR. Bush didn't do that and chose force BEFORE it was clear force would be necessary. THAT is what Kerry has always been against.

The American people are not ALL that dumb that they see it merely as a black and white issue. We do understand that you can be for a goal and against the WAY another person chooses to achieve that goal.

We do understand that Dean, too, was for a use of force resolution much like the IWR.

Dean chose to obscure the actual nuance of the debate by reducinig the debate to prowar and antiwar while misrepresenting his actual position and the position of others.

7. Dean had a nuanced position, yet he chose to demagogue.
Sad. Pathetic. Deceitful.

8. It was a nice going-away present
for the Kerry volunteers heading out from Montana to Iowa for the caucuses to see Kerry moving into the lead in the latest Zogby poll...
I couldn't go so I've been giving till it hurts instead.

I've also been writing to uncommitted Iowa voters that I find through letters to the editor, etc. and making the case for Kerry -- and I've been getting a VERY encouraging response.

It's an exciting time...

10. Thanks for that.
I wish I could give more. I've divided up my donations between Kerry and Kucinich, so it's been a little hard for me. My spouse can't contribute at all given his work conditions.

9. What a great letter!!
Kerry absolutely will take this country forward, and the world, and can make it better than we'd ever dreamed possible. Mr. Bubman here lined it out perfectly. Kerry is the Real Deal.
