kucinich becoming a staple in Leno monologue
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 10:18 AM by cryofan
Have any other kucitizens noticed that he is becoming a staple item in Jay Leno's monologue? I have noticed several references to DK's lack of popularity/standing in the polls in recent monologues. Things like......when the monologue gets around to mentioning Mars, we get "and it looks like the Mars Rover has discovered that Kucinich is just as popular on Mars as he is here."

Is this good or bad for Dennis? Going on the "Great Mentioner" theory of media mentions being directly proportional to popularity, this would be good for DK. Or is DK pretty much irrelevant at this point with respect to the race?

In related news, google queries for "kucinich" now return a record results number of 3200+. Never been that high before. Probably related to the impending IA caucus....

3. If he's so insignificant
why would Leno mention him at all?

First they ignore you, then they ridicule you...

6. Leno doesn't seem like a RW
shrill to me, at least the few times I've watched him. I think it might actually be good for Kucinich in a way, because it's getting him exposure he wouldn't normally receive.

And if you think Leno is bad where DK is concerned, try living near his district, the local press, radio, and TV, and the punditocracy chatterboxes have a field day picking on him all the time.

4. Letterman gets his digs in too
on Kucinich but some can be funny and counter-intuitively positive, or at least in my view.

but he slams *moron regularly, so you take the good with bad i guess.

I think.I mean what is "product placement"?Try to watch one episode of any sitcom without a scene where they work meat-eating into it.I call it "the meat commercial".They also try to at least show someone smoking, like Kramer on Seinfeld with his cigars.Last night saw one with Newman lighting up a cigarette on the street.

10. No such thing as bad publicity, right?
At least they're talking about him, which is more than they've been doing to recognize his existence than in the past year.

Kucinich, God love him, is noble for his effort, but it's a lost cause. I just can't see him overtaking Clark or Dean or Kerry for the nomination.

15. He will if we vote for him. That's all it takes -- our votes.
Our money helps too, of course.

It all depends on whether we really want real change. Some people here don't, and it's not hard to identify them either.

19. and when we do vote for him, he does when
if any of you have been to truthout.org this week, you would know that Kucinich won thier Dem. candidate poll.
theses are the results:
Kucinich 44.5%
Dean 32.4%
Clark 14.6%
Kerry 3.6%
Edwards 2.4%
Sharpton 0.9%
Gephardt 0.7%
Braun 0.6%
Lieberman 0.3%

Total votes: 23804

Kucinich is nearly half the vote, with dean trailling him by 12points!

17. Leno should be imprisoned in Guantanmo Bay
so he can see the cruelties he inflicts on others. To me he's just another neocon Hollywood scumbag. Remember his campaigning for Schwarzenidiot?

Personally I think this hurts Kucinich. It makes Kucnich appear like a nutjob to the mainstream population.

When a candidate becomes a joke, people lose interest. It's like what happened with George Lincoln Rockwell and Lyndon Larouche, although these two psychos WERE nutjobs. But let us not underestimate the power of ridicule. Who wants to look like a crazy fool?

I think Kucinich should sue NBC for this.

mentions Kucinich alot..I think it's one of those names that he just likes to say. :)

It gets Dennis' name out there, some people learn only about politics by watching comedy shows.

Kucinich Presidency still a slight possibility,Hell is starting to freeze over",read by Al"Liposuction"Roker, something about why it's so cold.HAWAWHAWHAWHAW!!!!It could theoretically be considered funny by a certain % of people somewhere maybe I guess.

25. AS A KUCINICH SUPPORTER
i think that's funny, hey it is cold. And the colder it gets, the possibility grows stronger?

Dave already endorsed Kucinich on his show, he said all Dennis had to do is wear some freaky grin ( a photo Letterman showed during a joke) while in the WH and he said he'd vote for him.

DK should show up on his show with that grin and thank him for the support.

Letterman had a bit where some voiceover was announcing a Kucinich statement about his use of a pie chart during a radio debate:
'the following statement was released by the Kucinch campaign today: "To all of you making fun of my use of pie charts on the radio debate.............<loooooooong silence here>............ Right now I'm giving you the finger"

still funny. That's the stuff that hangs in the mind of Letterman's (and other late nite show fan's) mind, visual, tough smack you back humor, ends up as internet urban legend, but doesn't really hurt DK in the long run.
