It's a little mindless and for sure an over-simplification, but those seem to work pretty well in a campaign. Ask the question...

"If your family suddenly found it had some extra money, would you pay off your credit cards or give the money to your friends in hope they'd do something good with it and pay you back?"

Or, for a simpler version, stop after "friends." You could even change "friends" to "croneys" or "poker buddies."

Seems to me that's what Bush* did with our surplus.
