Maine Caucus results - Dexter |
|
WWW and I attended our caucus at the town hall today. Smallish turnout, but everyone was pretty much in agreement that we need to get rid of Bush in the worst way. The results for 20 particpants:
Kerry - 10 Kucinich - 3 Clark - 3 Dean - 2 Edwards - 2 Sharpton - 0 Undecided - 0

3. Dexter, the former home of Dexter Shoe, is central ME. |

West of Bangor, North of Waterville. Very rural Republican area on the edge of the Great North Woods. Pretty much older population too. The people who supported Kucinich gave a very impassioned speech on his behalf. I spoke on Kerry's behalf. We'll be sending 10 Kerry delegates to the State convention and 1 each from the others who got votes (10 total).

5. Those Dexter shoes are fine shoes. |
|
Is that the only plant left in the U. S. to still manufacture shoes? Have all the rest gone overseas? Is New Balance making any shoes in the U. s. anymore. Trying to figure out what industry/manufacturing we still have left.
Hope you had fun at your caucus. Exercizing our right to vote should be fun!!

6. I don't believe there are any Dexter factories left in Maine |

Like all the rest of the shoe factories in the state (and I used to work in them) they took their jobs elsewhere.
Dexter also stopped making my favorite work boots (the 8 inch high-top sh*tkickers).
I wore my last pair until they fell apart several years ago...

7. Unfortunately, Dexter Shoe has gone the way of most |
|
shoe companies in Maine. NB might still be in Skowhegan, Maine Mary worked there, IIRC. Maine has been on the cutting edge of outsourcing for 50 years....the 1st wave was textile factories moving moving South.
It grates me that Dexter Shoe has exited Dexter, but still uses it's name and "image" in the advertising, though.
It was a great experience, I just wish more turned out...it is a pretty Republican (in the old sense) town.

(in Franklin County) We had 12 attendees and 2 absentees.
All those present voted for Kerry and the 2 absnetees were Dean. So we're sending 3 Kerry delegates to Portland.
Thanks for taking part! Our 14 voters was, by far, better than 2000 when we had zero attendance and 2 years ago when my husband and I were the only 2.
Hopefully we can meet up at the convention. I have to be there on Thursday night before the convention starts.
Also, I'm a candidate for National Convention delegate. :)
