Senate campaign in Illinois.....
As a Kucinich supporter, I don't know who is the most Progressive Democrat running for the Senate seat of a former Repubblican...Fitzgerald.

I found a Democrat called Hynes...now in a state office holder running. His issues are pretty Democratic. Link: http://www.danhynes.com/

He supports Edwards. Democrats seem to be all over the place when it comes to support of the various candidates. I anti-ME war. Have to find out about that.

1. one word
Obama.

Arguably the most progressive of the bunch. Has actually passed progressive laws as a State Senator. And railed against the Iraq war when a couple candidates were hedging suppor of it and the rest were watching the political prevailing winds.

2. Barack Obama.
Hynes is DLC and highly connected to the Daley machine. Hull is trying to buy his own election though he has no experience, no personality, and didn't even vote until the late '90's. (He's over 60.) Obama is liberal, effective, and generally terrific. (I've met and talked personally with them all.)

3. Yup
Obama has the record of being the most liberal. Hynes supports the IWR, and that'll hurt him with liberals. He's hoping for a moderate, independent, republican swing I suppose.

Blair Hull is running on progressive issues, and he's the only union card carrier of the bunch. He's fantastically rich though, and it shows in his enourmous campaign expenditures.

The rest are relatively minor candidates.

4. I'm torn.
I think Obama would make a fantastic senator, but I think Hynes would, too. Each has different strengths and electoral appeal. In any event, this race is a '+1' for the Democrats in the GE; Illinois voters will be 'ham sandwich Democrats' this November.
