Democratic U.S. Congressman and former presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich and actor Sean Penn stopped by the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio this past Saturday, February 16 to support WJCU's 2008 Radiothon Heavy Metal Benefit Concert. Kucinich, along with this wife, actor friend and entourage, made an unannounced visit to the Collinwood-neighborhood venue while out campaigning for his upcoming re-election bid.

According to the Cleveland Scene, Penn and Kucinich took the stage at 10:30, just before headliner RINGWORM, a Cleveland-based group with international cult following.
..

Greeted by a cheering crowd, the duo spoke briefly to the crowd of a few hundred surprised metalheads, then introduced the band, who launched into "The Sickness" from 2001's "Birth Is Pain" LP....

The video rebroadcast of this concert will be streamed free on YeboTV.com on Saturday, March 1, 2008. The concert will be shown continuously from 7 a.m. to 12 midnight to hit all time zones. In addition to RINGWORM, the event included performances by CELLBOUND, NIGHTCRAWLER, DARK ARENA, VENOMIN JAMES and LICK THE BLADE. All proceeds were donated to college radio station WJCU 88.7 FM. to support their annual Radiothon fundraiser.

Sean Penn Comes To Cleveland To Support Rep. Kucinich

POSTED: 12:12 pm EST February 17, 2008
UPDATED: 5:29 pm EST February 17, 2008

While the eyes of the nation are focussed on Ohio's presidential politics, the Academy Award winner was mindful of the adage that all politics is local.

That's why he continues to throw his support behind Kucinich.

"There's nobody that's comparable," Penn said...

Opponents and some constituents said his pursuit of the White House has caused him to lose touch with the needs of his district -- a view Penn believes not only to be wrong, but shortsighted...

1. I've met a lot of famous people
but Sean Penn is right at the top of people I'd really like to meet-he's also, like me a big Springsteen fan and a true progressive-he's cool as hell in my book
