THE SNIFF TEST

Announcer: "Dennis Kucinich gives a lot of speeches. He just doesn't get much done. On his watch, we've lost 38,000 jobs.
"He's passed only one bill in 11 years in Washington. And, brings home less money - 33 percent less for local projects.
It's time for a change.
Joe Cimperman. A record of real results. Creating 5,000 new jobs. Opening new health clinics. Cracking down on predatory lenders."...
DEVELOPING A FOLLOWER
http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/42/rocking-the-campaign-trailDennis Kucinich recently used the e-mail list of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), the group formed by Howard Dean in 2004, to solicit donations nationwide for his congressional race in Ohio's 10th district. Strongly promoting his unwavering and outspoken opposition to the war in Iraq, the Kuch wrote, "There is a cost for speaking out about things that matter. Those who wish to preserve their privileges and power fight back ... I need your help to fight back against a well-financed campaign to silence your voice in Congress."
But it's doubtful that the Iraq occupation is the top thing on the minds of the contributors to the "well-financed campaign" he refers to. What's clear instead is that he's probably referring to his strongest opponent in the congressional race - Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman, who is well supported by wealthy corporate interests, (especially banks, lawyers and real estate and development interests). According to Cimperman's financial report filed earlier this month, that's who's funding the councilman's congressional campaign. Cimperman arrived in the campaign the first week in December with a bang, saying he already had $226,000 in his campaign kitty. The report filed with the Federal Elections Commission shows that almost $220,000 of that was in contributions of $250 or more from many of Cleveland's most powerful business figures.
Topping the list were Forest City's Ratner family (Forest City affiliated donors contributed $12,500) and Ohio Savings' Goldberg family (with each of six Goldbergs contributing sums ranging from $1,000 to the maximum $2,300). Mitch Schneider of First Interstate Properties (Steelyard Commons) and Karen Schneider at the same address also maxed out, as did Scott Wolstein of Developers Diversified, promoters of the Flats East Bank development. In addition, of almost 200 contributors, less than a third live in the 10th district, with a majority coming from downtown or East Side addresses largely in places such as Shaker Heights, Chagrin Falls and Pepper Pike. - AP
Joe Cimperman, Dennis Kucinich vocal at 10th District debate
http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/120349991340130.xml&coll=2Wednesday, February 20, 2008
...Barbara Ferris, a nonprofit director running for a third time, pointed out that Cimperman does not live in the district.
"He can't even vote for himself," Ferris said, drawing laughs from the crowd...
One woman in the audience asked Cimperman to specify the location of the 5,000 jobs he claims to have brought to Cleveland. He answered that jobs were created in downtown's Euclid Arcade, Tremont and the Flats.
Later Cimperman provided a list to the media of just 4,076 created jobs, more than a third of which were temporary jobs at the 2002 Gravity Games...

Ladies and gentlemen, if you have money and resources, step right up.
We’re giving away money by the truckload. Wait, you taxpayer/suckers, please leave, you’re not eligible. However, we’ll send you the bill.
That’s the message I got from a deal presented by Mayor Frank Jackson with the full and hardy cooperation of a feeble, led-by-the-nose City Council. Is there a single council member worth a dime of the $70,000 or so they are paid? I don’t think so...
Because the developers are doing us such a favor in taking our money, the three stooges at the Cuyahoga County Commission will throw them another $800,000 in commercial development money and another $300,000 in another development incentive...
