awesome Dean-related experience |
|
okay, i usually don't post this kind of stuff but, being that the first debate is tonight and all, there is some relevance.
I'm a grad student at a Big Ten school, and the majority of people living in my apartment complex are also grad students mixed in with some regular people, that is, non-students. Anyway, I was walking into my complex about an hour ago, when an elderly woman -- 75ish -- whom I had never met before came up to me as we were both walking in the front door and said "Where'd you get that Dean sticker?" At first, I didn't get it, but then realized she meant the Dean for America bumpersticker I had stuck onto my laptop briefcase. We chatted briefly, and she said how much she liked Dean, thought he was a straight shooter, and liked how he stood up to Bush. She said she was originally from the South, so she had a soft-spot for Edwards, but didn't think he "has it."
She was very politically aware, knew who Gen. Clark was in fact, and said she was going to be watching the debate tonight and hoped that Dean would "do well."
Anyway, it was pretty cool to see someone from outside the stereotypical Dean demographic be up on his politics, as well as the rest of the field.

to have those experiences when you talk to people who are thoughtful, amiable and informed. Nothing like having a fruitful discussion and meeting a good, solid person.

2. The "stereotype" of Dean supporters is kind of like that |
|
"stereotype" of the war protesters. Not true in either case as well.

5. Yeah, I was going to say |
|
the "stereotypical Dean demographic," despite ill-informed press reports to the contrary, is absolutely across the board. All ages, economic rungs, colors, and political parties (including "none").

3. Thanks for that neat story! I, too, have had an older Person |
|
or Three ask me where I got my Dean Pin that I wear at my job @ the Co-op in Middle New York.
It astounds me when People are paying attention!
One older man liked Dean and said he was surprised that they would let me wear my political statement and I told him that it wasn't the store endorsing a candidate it was only me!
One couple who were the leaders of an Elder Hostel that came through our town and said they were for Dean after seeing my "DeanforAmerica" Pin!
I think they were from North Carolina! :kick:

the many elderly women I have talked to dislike Bush (whistle-ass)intensely. I am not suprised they like Dean. Some one the strongest anti-war people I've met have been older women...
