At a nearby DEC viewing and straw poll meeting, 3 GOP came. |
|
Interesting. One's wife could not be there, or it would have been four. They are switching because their intelligence has been insulted. I went to college with one of the couples a long time ago, and they are brilliant people, good people. One said he has other friends who might come and join DEC.
They have also been at the Dean Meet-ups, and they recognize what we have seen here and what he has said....fiscally conservative, socially liberal.
It was a good sign in this VERY conservative area.
Other good signs: I took Blinded by the Right when I was out the other day, just carried it with me. It got all kinds of comments, and I calmly explained who David Brock was. Most listening were Republicans, but they thought it was a good thing he came out with what had been going on. One said they were going to buy the book.
There is no way to explain how important that these things happened here in this area. Last year, I would have been yelled down. My hubby wears his Dean shirt with peace button all around town. No one is ugly, though some disagree.
I think this is a tremendous sign. Whether it be Dean or whoever, it shows people are waking up.

2. It certainly does! And I know what you mean by the "importance" |
|
of it!
All you have to do is know how it would have been "last year" to realize the drastic change! I'm so excited!
I wear my Dean pin like a badge of Honor! It's my jewelry!

8. Democratic Executive Committee |

I always just called it the county Democratic Party. Seems like after being almost decimated, there are some real leaders there now.

We have them all across Florida. Basically the same thing as the county Democratic Party.

7. I am surprised at Graham's lack of showing here so far. |

Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 11:43 PM by madfloridian
He is very well-loved here. I don't remember when he has not been in office, well-respected. I almost have to put the fault on his campaign, if I had to put it somewhere. I am sorry about it. I have talked to the campaign headquarters, and it seems to be lacking energy.

I suppose the strategist know that Wisconsin's primary is in march and pretty late in the game....maybe they are conserving their resources for earlier primaries. Maybe they will just keep me on hold until closer to Super Tuesday.

19. I called twice in one day with an important item .... |
|
that they needed to really address, a serious misquote. I never heard a word back. I called his Tampa office, and the aide said I should call the campaign office. I said I just did. He said he did not know how to handle it, and I got huffy and suggested that since he was running for president they'd better figure it out.

9. I went to a DEC meeting tonight |
|
In more friendly territory- Palm Beach County. I went there to make sure I was elected as a delegate. They brought up the voter fraud situation. We're having a town meeting soon about the whole issue surrounding BBV.
There was this great guy who got up and gave an announcement. Apparently he is taking Bush, LePore, and Charles Burton to court. There are 20 civil rights violations that the suit accuses them of. He told the audience that he expects Jeb to get 12 years in prison! Everybody cheered.

Even if Jeb doesn't go to jail, a little judicial halatosis is never bad.

This is just iffy territory so far. But we have a couple of fireballs about ready to run for a county office. There is also an I-4 Corridor group that meets, to get out the Democratic vote by bringing together all kinds of Democrats who have been left behind here. Way behind.
There are groups from one country, about which I will write more later, that are unable to go home and unable to become citizens. This is one that shocked me. More on that later, when they are feeling more welcome.
I think the GOP has had this state too long, and we are going to take it back!

15. I think we are where the GOP was in FL until the last 10 years. |

The Democrats were in control, and they snuck up and took over. Ain't gonna happen again.
Gotta remember "Walkin' Lawton", and take Florida back in his memory.

He knew just how to play the press, too. Like a fiddle. I loved him. Our paper devoted a whole section to his memory, and I still have it.
