Rep. Scott McInnis to retire |
|
Here's the article from www.politics1.com:
COLORADO CONGRESSMAN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT. In an unexpected move, six-term Congressman Scott McInnis (R-CO) announced this weekend that he will not seek re-election in 2004. "I have now been serving in elected office for 21 years, have been away from home for over 3,600 nights, traveled about 3 million miles in airplanes, driven 50,000 miles every year in the district ... and I have enjoyed our time on top of the mountain, but we see another peak in the distance and we want to strike out toward it," explained McInnis in an email to supporters. He was viewed as a safe bet to win re-election in this heavily GOP district -- and is frequently mentioned as a future candidate for higher office. Some speculate that the move is intended to better position McInnis to run for Governor in 2006, when the incumbent is term-limited. Expect a long line of GOP candidates to express an interest in seeking this open House seat.
Is there any chance we could take this one?

Yeah, I think that Colorado will be in play in 2004 for Pres. and that should give us a shot at the seat if we can field a decent candidate.

This seat voted for Bush, but gave him only 50.2% of the vote while the Greens got 7.8% of the vote. So, if we can keep the Greens from running a candidate then we have a good chance. The BIG problem is that the republicans made this more republican in redistricting so if that actually goes through then we are probably screwed. Does anyone know the status of the colorado redistricting?

We can win this seat unless re-redistricting is affirmed.
