Dean pulls no punches at College Park, MD rally draws 3,700
Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean launched his Maryland presidential primary campaign last night with a boisterous outdoor rally that drew an estimated 3,700 people to the University of Marland campus, and he delivered a caustic denunciation of President Bush's judgement and truthfulness.

"The president ran as a uniter, not a divider, and that was a lie," Dean told the crowd.

also from the article:
Veteran political observers said the turnout was remarkable fro a rally seven months before teh state's March primary and 14 months prior the general election. "I've seen this build up faster from the ground than any presidential campaign I've ever seen in Maryland," said Howard County Del. Elizabeth Bobo, one of about 35 present and former Democratic officeholders to endorse Dean last night.

Great news, but I wish the crowd would have been even bigger... it should have been for chrissakes, a college campus and stumphead's latest idiocy!

2. yes
but as the article said a crowd of almost 4,000 is still damn impresive at this point and you don't see any of the other candidates drawing these kinds of crowds either.

5. This is just One of the reasons I'm so Happy and excited for
our future!

""Dean is just in a completely different universe as far as connecting with the Democratic base."

"Dean appeared to have the Democratic base well in hand last night -- at least on the UM campus -- receiving a rock star's welcome as he bounded onto the stage with no jacket and his shirtsleeves rolled up to the elbow."

"The crowd appeared to be a mix of young and old, with a strong turnout of UM students."

7. I was there
It was awesome. And the College Republicans at my school made it pretty interesting by showing up and protesting...Dean was great about it, though...when they started yelling "four more years!" he just smiled and said "let them yell. By 2004 they will be so worried about their jobs and tuition that half of them are going to vote for me!"
