From the Newark Star-ledger.
It may be on the wane but it isn't waning far enough.
The latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll shows Bush retains majority support in New Jersey, with 56% approval and 37% disapproval and 7% offering no opinion. However in May, Bush had a 62/29 percent approval rating in the state. Bush had a high of 88% approval in NJ in March, 2002.
On Bush's efforts in the "war on Terrorism" Bush has a 57/38 approval rating.
On the economy Bush has a 49/44 disapproval rating.
Poll Director Cliff Zukin said Bush's overall approval rating "may still be swelled by some who are giving a patriotic response of support for the president while the country is at war...if the 2004 presidential election were held today, the poll indicates Bush could be in trouble in NJ."
At this point 43% would vote for Bush while 35% expect to vote Democratic. Another 10% say they will wait to see who the Democrats nominate before deciding. The rest are undecided or support minor party candidates.
"it is significant that the number who say they would vote for Bush runs so far behind his job approval rating," Zukin said.
