Slate's Will Saletan: Bush ok with lies because everyone lies?
" … by projecting all evil onto Republicans, Democrats spread the same political disease: the notion that you don't have to be wary of lying or cheating unless the other side is doing it. Lying and cheating don't belong to Republicans or Democrats. We're all susceptible, and we're all guilty....Some people are more guilty than others. But if that's your obsession, I commend to you the words of my colleague, Jack Shafer: If you're interested in which wing lies more, you're probably not very interested in the truth. "

As expressed above it is simple logic - if Dems lie get down on them -

- but as spun - as in the ABCNote ("Slate's Will Saletan says Dems shouldn't get some comfortably in their glass houses of nice — a boulder could smash through the window at any moment.") - this comes off as Dems lie so if you prove Bush lies so what. And we are doing you a favor ignoring Bush lies as we try to find Dem lies.

2. I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it's hell.

3. Arrogance and foolery, all rolled into one
Did you catch Saletan's take on the Grand Theft Democracy 2000? He thought the argument was about "the popular vote" (which is telling, but not the main point) and counting chads--and even then he can't avoid specious drivel.

That's just ignorant--worse than lying, because he's in a position to know better, and he gets a lot of eyeballs.

Pious lies indeed.

4. I read that. It was one of Saletan's worst columns.
He makes invalid associations between concepts. Go read the comments in the message board there. Some of the readers really ripped Saletan up.
